Nov. 24 ratings

I guess these are the last ratings without the Christmas effect:

The main thing that sticks out to me in the beauty contest numbers is Weedeater 680 lost more than half of its audience, and 92.9 didn't benefit. Where did they go? Or is this drop-off from the Braves in October?

IMHO it's the Braves effect. Also there was an "issue" with some of the television coverage the first half of the season. They could have retained some of that audience which left after the Braves season was over.

Ha, so true on the Braves TV coverage.

Funny story ... I have YouTube TV, but they don't have Bally Sports. I contacted Bally directly about subscribing to their Atlanta package. However, their Atlanta package doesn't include the Braves at all. They told me I had to get Xfinity cable to see the Braves, but at that time, the Braves and Xfinity were in a pissing match. So Bally wanted me to subscribe to a service to see the Braves, but the service didn't have the games at the time.

Life was simpler when Turner owned the Braves back in the 70's. You just watched channel 17.

They do have a new PD and I have certainly noticed some tweaking of things I wonder how much that factors into it...

Something needed to be done with Power, but putting the hip hop format on 96.1 was silly. 105.3 has almost the same coverage 104.1 has and look how well WALR does with its signal. 105 covers the area a hip hop station MUST cover in the market. 96.1 does too, but it’s not going to move the ratings needle much for Beat.

Heck, 107.9 is on a worse signal than 105.3 and outperforms The Beat handily. 105.3 was a perfect signal for The Beat IMO.

I also remembered when “The Beat” was on 96.7 WRDG (the current WBZW)

Another thing about 96.7, is that the station has a 0 share from September, October, and November. Maybe another format flip, or another simulcast with 105.7…

I believe Amazon Prime will also be carrying the Braves games in 2025.
Looks that way, but it will carry an additional upcharge.

I'm waiting to see where the games will be cheaper, Amazon or the Fan Duel app.

I miss the old WTCG/WTBS 17. The Three Stooges, Gilligan, The Brady Bunch, Andy Griffith, Archie Bunker, Carol Burnett and Fred Sanford. Bill Tush with the news (kinda). Plus the (abysmal) Braves with Skip, Ernie, and Pete and "The Beastmaster" running after the game at least once a week. And it didn't matter if you wanted a set of Ginsu knives, a Chia Pet, a Mr. Microphone, or Slim Whitman's Greatest Hits, all you had to do was dial 1-800-257-1234.

Sigh.

Remember this?

How long before the POWER gets cut off at 105.3
I am afraid iHeart will make 105.3 a "hold so nobody else gets it " station. The future of 105.7 is "national buys". 96.1 is supposed to challenge V103 for whole market signal R & B / Rap which could take decades. That really leaves them The Bull. Just what every iHeart local sales person wants: a one station cluster.

They supposedly have a successful (in other markets) programming executive to shepherd the Atlanta cluster. I don't know how much freedom she will have. Maybe she can change Atlanta from a low cost cookie cutter dumping ground for iHeart into a serious cluster for iHeart.

Wonder if one of iHearts cookie cutter classic rock formats would work on 105.3. Maybe one of their mainstream rock ones that play 1970 to 2010 rock such as the Columbus Rock 103 station. Maybe something that can go after both River and X.

105.3 is not a "full market" signal. It is similar to 104.1 which covers the southwest and southeast parts of the city which is where the majority of any Urban format's P1's live. I doubt you can find anyone who knows Atlanta neighborhood's racial makeup, who thinks putting CHR on 105.3 was a good thing. It would be like putting BIN on a Fannin County GA signal.

I know some of posters on this board think that big corporate ownership is the only way to save the industry. So I can only guess running a station with no chance any kind of meaningful listenership is going to send revenue to their other signals in the cluster, not the competition.

Would it be more cost-effective to end Power and put WBIN on the 105.3 signal and see what happens? 'Cause ain't nothing happening at 105.3 right now.

Maybe it nibbles at WSB a little. Maybe it encourages WAOK to find an FM outlet.
