leave it to CC to screw up a great thing! first the blow up KOOL whose last couple of months were huge! then they stick to 19 year vet Stunt Runt(whose last month at KWNR was huge!) now that automated Jeff Jay is there, Coyote's Rob Banks will use him as a punching bag...other dayparts will suffer, and Brooks will eventually be gone! Stunt Runt had a great connection with his audience(like Freddy Banks did during KOMP's glory days, like JB at KLUC, Mark & Mercedes at MIX, etc.) Maybe they aren't number 1 market jocks on the air, but the connection they have with their audience IS!!! Those who localize, prioritize, and WIN! Then Sunny gets Melanie back on the air, Melanie and Tom are a team again, and they now have Tom off the morning show to voice track middays...way to help The Oasis and KJUL! And wait till you see what happens with KJUL in the months to come...hehe...it's started January 2nd... Sunny is still too hard musically and, trust me, you will see that audience erode....and The Party? Quit helping Mix! Play the urban and dance titles people know and like...everytime a mix song plays, your audience hits the button...Justin at MIX must be loving it! and just the opposite, Star needs to quit playing Party music...no post modern titles, way to help Mix again! And we havent heard from Jack in a while...hmmm. I wonder why? Bring back Klassy 100, please! And then there's the idiots at HOT who were lucky enough to get away with letting Jeff G. go(who sounds killer at Mix!) but were stupid enough to let Mike P. go! That station was built around that guy...Hot is on their way down, bigtime! Its nice that KLUC will have them as a punching bag for a while...KKLZ STILL hasn't switched to OLDIES...they must love being the last rated FM in town....and XTREME hasnt been that way since Mike Stern was PD...Do you think it's an accident that 2 of the most successful stations in town have no voice tracking and a direct connection with their listeners? KLUC and MIX...it makes me happy to have played radio when it was fun and things made sense....today they try to make tons of dollars and they make no cents....or sense...with all the choices available, those who dont localize will continue to lose out...without a doubt!

I think that HOT will be just fine. J-Noise had a great first month in mornings, he actually did better than Mike P. I expect that HOT will pull ahead of KLUC next trend because HOT will drop off a poor November while KLUC will drop off it's best month in years.

I predict it will stay a close rhythmic race, neither will pull far ahead of the other. They will both continue to do good. Both KLUC and HOT have a lot going for them. They are young in a market full of older skewing formats, yet they also do well 25-54 as the adult stations fragment each other. They have multi-ethnic appeal in this melting pot of a market and they are both live, local, and interactive 24/7.

they should give out .25 cal "glove box specials" with pearl grips imprinted with the station's logo on them...great promotion... oh and for you defenders of the boring "THE talkxnt" Station...observe the water goes clockwise (to the right) when it goes down the toilet bowl ...have a nice day Jack

KXNT isn't going down the toilet. They had their best month in a while. In particular, mornings and middays were strong. In the Jan extrap KXNT was #4 25-54 middays, beating most FM stations. As much criticism as he get's for being stale, Rush can still pull numbers. Dr Laura must also get ratings, especially for a show that has been considered "over with" for five years.

So far there is no interest in KDWNs morning news block. It is a virtual no-show. But K-DAWN continues to beat KXNT in PM drive.

Some comments on vegasradios post..Maybe I'm just monitoring them at the wrong times but SUNNY doesn't seem especially hard to me. I hear them play oldies, country crossovers, and currents/recurrents like "Put Your Records On" (good song).

SUNNY doesn't seem like a Hot AC at all to me, yet they are doing surprisingly good 18-34. It wasn't just Christmas music in December, their 18-34 success continued into January. They are huge in women of all ages, from young to old. So whatever formula they have seems to be working.

The two newer stations..PARTY and the new STAR...look fairly similar 12+ but they are showing different stories in the extraps. PARTY has had a couple of promising months. January was especially decent both 25-54 and 18-34.

On the other hand, STAR has been trending down since the format shift. January was downright bad. As burned out as the 80s and more thing was, at least it was a niche..a unique identity. Now they have no niche or position, they are lost in the middle of the format ocean. Although to be fair it might still be too early, the next couple of months will tell a lot. Personally I like their jingle package.

I'm not sure if KWNR adding voicetracks at night will have any impact on other dayparts. Time will tell. KWNR has three things going for them for the Winter book. They were tied for #1 in the Jan extrap, COYOTE will drop off a good November next trend, and KWNR will drop off a horrific December before the book comes out.

KJUL continues to amaze me with their 12+ numbers (yes it's 100% 55+, but still) They actually broke into the top 10 this trend. If they had a decent signal I wouldn't doubt if they would be #1 12+...just like the old 104.3 KJUL often used to be.

Maybe KXTE was better off playing music. Opie and Anthony were a no-show. The more EXTREME sounds like FREE FM the more their numbers will look like a typical FREE which is not a good thing.

number 17, that's good? They can't even get people to call in....they had the "flip off" and they ended up flipping each other off...because no one called in.....
