I originally posted this in the Opelousas 103.7 thread but decided to create a new topic and see if anyone here was a fan or has any stories of Nova 104
As I remember it the KGRA call letters were chosen by the owner, Spook Stream, in honor of his brother Gray who had passed away (in a car wreck?).
It was a unique station that would probably fit closest into the AAA format box if were alive today. The PD/MD went by the name Zorick, another announcer went by Sky.
A guy named DC did many of the spots (I think he wrote them) that were creative and set a mood, they weren’t IN-YOUR-FACE like many radio ads often are. He’s still around according to a guy I spoke with at an art exhibit down there recently. Zorick left Nova to program KATT in OKC when it was starting up, that station was really good too and similar to Nova 104.
I lived in LC in ‘77 for several months working at a local audio store, Nova was one of the things that attracted me to LC. I only stayed 6months and came back to Monroe, but listened to Nova with a tall FM antenna before and after living in LC. I don’t recall when they died and changed to KBIU.
I still have some cassettes of Nova104 and had them out a few months ago, they still sound good. I copied portions of them into my PC and at the time I was checking around to see if there was an aircheck site appropriate to posted some to… I still have some of their round bumper stickers with the logo you described..
