NOVA-M STUDIOS PADLOCKED: JUST A FEW DAYS "LEFT"

It's all George Bush's fault! Nurse Jeff and I'll miss Nova M, KPHX, On Second Thought, KNUV...or whatever, as much as we miss Nappy!

Bill Press was on live this morning, so somebody must be captaining the sinking ship.

It's possible listeners on one side of the political fence or the other tune in to become reinforced that their position is the "right" one and wouldn't listen to an opposing view but I wonder.....

If an enterprising station owner would dare to put both side of the argu....er, discussion on at different times during the day - if that wouldn't make the station stronger?

Rachel Maddow has begun doing that on her MSNBC TV show and it does provide some interesting argu....er, discussions. And as much as I tend to see one side stronger than the other the "opposition" does make their case every now and then.

Wouldn't it be good for the radio biz?

You mean something like a hypothetical KFYI lineup of (in order) Jacobs, Dr. Mike, Rush, Randi, Windbag, Stephanie, & Savage? Talk about a lose-lose situation! They'd each spend half their show trashing the previous one, to the benefit of absolutely nobody.

Note that I left The Nearly Bald One off this lineup. There'd be no room for anyone reasonable in this motley crew. Or even semi-unreasonable - I left Hannity & Rachel off as well.

I don't listen to hate....er, talk radio so I'm looking at this from an owners perspective and not necessarily what's on-air currently.

Obviously the various hosts would have to be somewhat moderate in their hosting or rapid alienating of portions of the audience would occur as you point out.

Maybe hate....er, talk radio is destined to remain a sort of WWE - extremists on both sides that just spin up the naturally occurring hostilities for the greatest noise.

It does seem to me there would be room for a moderate, sort of MOR, approach to political discussion without all the flaming. Got to be an owner somewhere willing to try it out, no? I personally would listen if it were intelligent and not the nutsack idiots we've got now.

How does Lemmons know the station will 'ultimately go dark' anyway?
[/quote]

Like any Good Reporter he has a good supply of Reliable Intel. The plug got pulled at the Transmitter at 3:35PM this afternoon.
The real problem is trying to run a Radio Station from 1800 miles away and having non-radio people in an Ownership Position that want to run things even though they have a GM to do the job. It was the same problem at AAR.

Randi Rhodes was the LAST remaining RIGHTEOUS babe in national talk radio.

Either somebody bring HER back. Or the ENTIRE Fairness Doctrine.....

Your choice......

Their website is still up and running. They are still streaming here: http://www.1190novam.com/DynamoPages.php?PID=22

How long will 1190 NOVA-M be dark? Will Progressive Talk radio return to Phoenix?

Ten bucks sez ProgTalk on 1190 is one for the anals of Phoenician Radio History. NRV is no doubt disgusted with the whole Nova M experience and will soon be flipping the thing to Hispanic Punk or just leaving the thing dark until the next dilettante drops a bag-o-cash on the counter.

But the 1010/1480/1190 exercise did establish the fact that there is an audience for Lib Talk. Remember that McCain only took Maricopa by 11 percent, with the new Prez chalking up 44 percent--so Phoenix ain't all that conservative.

Best bet? Clear Channel to slap it on 910 and sell it in combo as a Right/Left Talk thing--just like Portland...

Is 1190's signal (on-air) still off?

It was as of 6:45 AM this morning. I was hearing some religious talk show on that frequency. Don't know what station it was, but since it faded out as the sun came up, I'm guessing that it was not coming from Tolleson.

Just tuned in...nothing but static.

But the static was more entertaining and informative than Randi Rhodes. :D

That frequency could USE some religion after what it's been through.

Dunno 'bout that remedy, WackiWoman. Nurse Jeff and I think there's a certain irony in the true need of 11~Ninety: Colon Blow!!

This station once called itself "NBC 1190", if I remember...is that right?

(There's a key to success...name your radio station after a network that only exists in radio form about six or seven hours a day, run by another company!)
