A friend of mine told me that I could get a few Nova Scotia FM's along the downeast Maine coast. Obviously I can't just drive there to find out,but does anyone know off the top of their head?

New Brunswick, yes -- Nova Scotia, not that I ever remember. All of the Saint John, NB stations come in down to the Machias area in a car.

Actually, here on Mount Desert Island CBC Radio 1 from Halifax comes in fairly well from Yarmouth NS on 92.1; Unfortunately there is a translator on 92.1 in Ellsworth relaying WHMX (?) 105.7 from Lincoln, and they interfere on the north side of MDI.

Also 93.5 from Yarmouth makes it quite often here along the shoreline with just the slightest bit of skip., It's 120 miles straight across the Bay of Fundy/Gulf of Maine from Seawall Point on MDI to Yarmouth.

I agree with Adam, most of the Saint John FMs make it to Machias and even Jonesport, in Eastern Maine. CBC Radio 1 on 91.3 from Mount Champlain, NB used to come in all the time here, but with a "Satellator" gospel on 91.3 here in SW Harbor, it doesn't any more.

Of course if you drive up to the top of 1500 foot Cadillac Mountain you can get FM from Nova Scotia to Boston, without any skip or tropo!!!! The road is open until the first snow...so hurry up!!!

Ok...here ya go...I drove up to the Top of Cadillac Mountain Sunday afternoon, Nov. 1st and did most monitoring at the main parking lot at the summit, (elevation 1520 feet) with a clear overlook to the east, north and west. Some monitoring was done at a smaller turnoff, about 100 feet below the summit with a clear view to the south and west, and enough of a shadow from the summit to block out stronger singals from Bangor area.

A couple notes: all listings with a # are within direct line-of-sight to the top of Cadillac, meaning I can actually see the mountain or location they are transmitting from.

All entries (( in parentheses )) are stations I could only get at the south turn-off, one hundred feet below the summit.

This was the first bandscan I have done this year from Cadiullac. I was rather disappointed I didn't get more southern New England stations; Before the dial became so clogged in the 90s, numerous Boston Providence, and Cape Cod stations used to come in. Now they do occasionally, but it takes tropo skip enhancement. Sunday there was absolutely none. It was clear, cool, and very dry.

So...any comments, ideas to UnIDs??

Remember Cadillac Mountian is located in Acadia Nationa Park and the summit is the highest point along the eastern Seaboard of the USA. The highway up is free, with ample parking at top, and suitable for RVs! However, keep in mind it is NOT open to traffic in winter and the Park Service shuts it down after the first fall snow. It usually doesn't re-open until early or Mid May after all the snow and ice melts.

for more info visit the National Park Website: www.nps.gov/acad

That 104.1 signal was CIFA 104.1 Yarmouth. It is an acadian station.

An impressive list, rjoc. Basically what you're saying is that the top of Cadillac is radio heaven! (except in winter) ;) I hope you took a little time to look around and enjoy the view while you were dial-flipping?

I also forgot to mention that the 106.1 freq. is in Yarmouth. It is actually within "sight" of Cadillac. The tower that 106.1 is on actually contains 92.1,104.1,106.1, and 107.3 FM I don't quite know where the four CJLS towers are, but I do know their frequencies: 93.5,94.7,95.5, and 96.3.
