"Novelty instrumentals"?

Hey

Since we've covered a lot of categories, and recently "Novelty Tunes," were there any tunes that were meant to be instrumentals, but were kinda funny?

Like the Singing Dogs' version of "Jingle Bells" or "Oh Susanna"?

I'll start off....

"Got a Match?" by the Daddy-O's or Frank Gallop
"Cha-Hua-Hua" by the Pets

Maybe Spike Jones had instrumentals....

Too Much Tequlia Champs

Church Key Revels

Underwater - Frogmen

Baby Elephant Walk - Henry Mancini

Groovy Grubworm / Moose Trot Harlow Wicox and the Oklahoma Oakies

I don’t mean to come off as sounding critical Silkie but what is novel about Harlem Nocturne by the Vicounts? That’s just a regular old instrumental unless I’m missing something.

How about The Stripper by David Rose? That was novel.

Why would "Raunchy" be a novelty tune? Is it because of the title?

Maybe it's all in our perception...."Cha Hua Hua" that I mentioned I consider funny or bizarre, but others may not. Check it on YouTube....basically it's a bunch of "aaaaah"s sung horribly (IMO) sprinkled thru an otherwise instrumental.

"Cha Hua Hua" certainly wasn't designed as a novelty record.

Tijuana Taxi - Herb Alpert and the TJB

Dueling Banjos - Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith (This song originally composed in 1955 as "Feudin Banjos" for banjo. The composition in the movie "Deliverence" pitted a banjo against a guitar. Even so, Smith sued for use of his composition without permission. He won his lawsuit.)

Oh wow this one spun off the novelty "Dueling Tubas" by Martin Mull. Shoulda listed that one!
