November 12: This Day in TV History

Just a few random TV related events that happened on November 12. Discuss or comment as you please……

1936: Judge (and former boxer and referee) Mills Lane (Judge Mills Lane) is born in Savannah, Georgia.

1938: The first telecast of an unscheduled live breaking news event (a fire which broke out on Ward's Island, New York) is broadcast over NBC’s W2XBS (via their experimental portable station W2XBT).

1944: Sportscaster Al Michaels is born in Brooklyn, New York.

1954: Comedienne and TV personality Rhonda Shear (USA Up All Night) is born in New Orleans, Louisiana.

1960: CJAY (channel 7, now CKY-TV) signs on in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

1992: Absolutely Fabulous premieres on BBC2.

(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..) ;)

1970: Former skater Tonya Harding is born in Portland, OR. In addition to her involvement in the whole Nancy Kerrigan attack ordeal of early 1994 (which would later be greatly overshadowed by the OJ Simpson arrest and trial later that year), her other TV notoriety included a 2002 appearance on Fox's "Celebrity Boxing," winning a fight against Paula Jones.

Also, the nights that Tonya and Nancy competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics still rank as some of the highest-rated airings of any Olympics, winter or summer.

Tonya Harding and her then husband Jeff Gillooly not long after the Kerrigan attack together made a homemade porno film only to have Gillooly sell the tape to a taboild show ( Wikipedia doesn't say whom but I think it was Inside Edition ) and later clips of their "lovemaking" vid ended up in the pages of Penthouse Magazine not too mention the tape itself hit the market.

For some reason I have my doubts neither Gillooly or Harding made much money in the sale of their homemade porn.
