Just a few random TV related events that happened on November 13. Discuss or comment as you please……

1934: Actor/writer/director/producer Garry Marshall is born in the Bronx, New York.

1952: KDUB-TV (channel 11, now KLBK-TV) begins broadcasting in Lubbock, Texas.

1953: Actress Tracy Scoggins (Dynasty, The Colbys, Babylon 5, Lois & Clark) is born in Dickinson, Texas.

1965: Critic and author Kenneth Tynan becomes the first person to drop an F-Bomb on British television while commenting on censorship during a live TV debate on the BBC. The incident and the uproar that follow help to establish the infamous Mary Whitehouse as the self-appointed guardian of television morality in the United Kingdom.

1967: Comedian and TV host Jimmy Kimmel (The Man Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!) is born in Brooklyn, New York.

1977: The final original episode of Dad’s Army is broadcast on BBC1.

1987: Sonny and Cher reunite for a performance on Late Night with David Letterman.

(Year Unknown): Per the opening narration of The Odd Couple, the date that “Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence.” ;D

(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..) ;)

Oh my gosh...Never before did I make the connection between November 13 -- Felix Unger day -- and Odd Couple producer Garry Marshall's birthday!

Hmm....Coincidence?

(end sarcasm here.)

This classic moment in "Late Night with David Letterman" history is on YouTube at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3uTfyiayV0 (Letterman's interview with Sonny and Cher)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUdiaTt1O6o&feature=related (Sonny and Cher performing "I Got You Babe")

Hard to believe that Sonny Bono would leave us about 10 years and two months after this "Letterman" appearance.

1982: CBS Sports airs the boxing match between Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini vs. South Korean boxer Duk Koo Kim (with Tim Ryan at the call). Kim would die of injuries sustained in the match (internal bleeding) four days later. In addition, Kim's mother would commit suicide three months later, and the match's referee, Richard Green, also did the same on July 1, 1983. More information on this tragic fight in boxing history is available at the Duk Koo Kim biography on Wikipedia:

Portions of the CBS coverage of the Mancini-Kim bout is on YouTube at:
