Can somebody tell me about the Max Headroom "hijacking" incident of WTTW and WGN? Does anyone know how they were able to hijack 2 television signals in the 3rd largest market in the U.S.? (No I don't want to do it here in New York!)

P.S.Were those guys ever caught?

Enjoy!

I was interning at WMAQ-TV when that happened, it was right after Mayor Harold Washington died.

Anyway, Mark Giangreco was doing sports one night and he says, off air, to Ron Magers, "Watch Carol."

So he's doing his sports report and the video of Max Headroom cuts in. Carol turns white. The newsroom is out of control. The EP of the news is screaming, "We’ve been hacked." There is utter chaos. Giangreco remains cool. It happens again. Giangreco looks into the camera and says, "That Chet Coppeck, he'll do anything to get back on TV."

Magers breaks out laughing, the newsroom sighs and Carol does a slow burn.

Good times.
