November 25: This Day in TV History

Just a few random TV related events that happened on November 25. Discuss or comment as you please……

1920: Actress Noel Neill (The Adventures of Superman) is born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

1947: Actor John Larroquette (Night Court, McBride) is born in New Orleans, Louisiana.

1948: Seattle’s KRSC-TV (channel 5, now KING-TV) signs on in Seattle, Washington as the first TV station north of San Francisco and west of the Mississippi River. Its inaugural broadcast is a live remote (plagued with technical difficulties) of a Thanksgiving Day high school football game.

1963: President John F. Kennedy’s funeral is broadcast on U.S. television. 30 minutes of the procession (but not the actual funeral) are also relayed live to Europe and the U.K. during a pass of the Telstar satellite.

1968: Actress Jill Hennessey (Law & Order, Crossing Jordan) is born in Edmonton, Alberta. DYK: Hennessey has an identical twin sister, Jacqueline, who is a host and occasional actress on Canadian TV. In 1995, when Jill’s L&O character Claire Kincaid made a crossover appearance on Homicide: Life on the Street, conflicting and overlapping production schedules forced L&O producers to recruit Jacqueline to double for her sister in a few courtroom scenes. (The unusual substitution was not credited on-screen.)

1971: Actress Christina Applegate (Married...with Children, Samantha Who?) is born in Hollywood, California.

1981: Actor Jack Albertson (Chico and the Man) dies in Hollywood, California, aged 74.

1998: The final original episode of Babylon 5 is broadcast on TNT.

(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..) ;)

1986: Actress and singer Katie Cassidy, the daughter of David Cassidy, is born in Los Angeles. Her TV roles include appearances on "7th Heaven," "Supernatural," "Melrose Place," and "Harper's Island."

The portion of JFK's funeral that was broadcast in that half hour window provided by Telstar was just as President kennedy's bnody arrived at Saint Matthew's Cathedral and was brought inside. The BBC's Richard Dimbleby, who was in Washington, provided the commentary for British viewers.
