Just a few random TV related events that happened on November 4. Discuss or comment as you please……

1916: Journalist Walter Cronkite is born in St. Joseph, Missouri. (Happy 92nd, Walter!)

1918: Actor Art Carney (The Honeymooners) is born in Mount Vernon, New York.

1919: Actor Martin Balsam (Archie Bunker’s Place) is born in The Bronx, New York.

1937: Actress Loretta Swit (M*A*S*H) is born in Passaic, New Jersey.

1962: TV producer and host Jeff Probst (Survivor) is born in Wichita, Kansas.

1968: WTOG-TV (channel 44) signs on in St. Petersburg, Florida.

1995: Actor Paul Eddington (The Good Life a/k/a Good Neighbors, Yes Minister) dies of cancer in London, England, aged 68.

2003: The NFL Network launches.

(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..) ;)
 
1980: Former movie and television actor ("General Electric Theater," "Death Valley Days"), and California governor Ronald Reagan is elected 40th President of the United States in a landslide (51%-41% popular vote, 489-49 electoral vote) victory over incumbent President Jimmy Carter.

...the only "landslide" in Reagan's first election was that Electoral College tally. The popular vote wasn't even that 51% you cite, it was 50.7%. His popular vote margin against Walter Mondale in 1984, 58.8% to 40.6%, is much closer to a legitimate "landslide" than the 1980; the news media, especially ABC, fell all over its collective self in repeatedly claiming the 1980 election was a "Reagan landslide," further making themselves laughing stocks in working class households across the country...

The worst was Baltimore's WBSB-FM "B104". The dj was playing Rod Stewart's then big hit "Passion" only to cut the song off and screamed "Reagan Landslide BABY...Reagan all the way !!!". Nothing was said on the air about the electoral college.

Then B104 went into Carly Simon's Jessie.

Was this right after the line,"even the president needs passion"? ;D

By the way, today also marks 30 years since the beginning of the Iran hostage crisis! Hard to believe it's been that long! I was a sophomore in high school at the time.
 
Yes, and nightly updates about the whole situation would eventually evolve into what we now call ABC's NightLine.
