Just a few random TV related events that happened on November 6. Discuss or comment as you please……
1936: NBC in New York demonstrates electronic television to 200 invited members of the press, with a 40-minute program of live acts and films, received on 12-inch television screens.
1947: Meet the Press debuts on NBC. (It is the longest-running television show in worldwide broadcasting history.) The show would be hosted for its first 6 years by its creator, journalist Martha Rountree. While she was certainly a pioneer for female news commentators and reporters, it is ironic that following her departure, Meet the Press has never again had a regular female moderator to this day.
1954: TV anchor and former judge Catherine Crier is born in Dallas, Texas.
1955: TV journalist (and hausfrau of Governor Ah-nold) Maria Shriver is born in Chicago, Illinois.
1960: Actor Lance Kerwin (James at 15/James at 16) is born in Newport Beach, California. In ironic contrast to his role in the controversial episode (lambasted by religious groups) in which James loses his virginity, Kerwin is now a Christian minister associated with Calvary Chapel in California.
1966: Actor/director/producer/writer Peter DeLuise is born (to comic Dom DeLuise and actress Carol Arthur) in New York City. DeLuise is best known for his long stint as a producer, director, and writer for Stargate SG-1 from 1997 until the show’s demise. DYK: In an almost Hitchcockian gesture, DeLuise is said to have appeared (usually as a background extra) in every Stargate episode that he directed.
2001: 24 premieres on Fox.
2005: The Boondocks, based on the popular yet controversial comic strip, debuts on Cartoon Network.
(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..)
