November Christmas Sweepstakes............Place Your Bets!

It is almost November in Western New York, and we all know what that means in Radio. Who will be the first radio station to switch to All Christmas music, All time. Will it be Star 102.5 or 96.1 Joy FM?. Now that Toronto's 97.3 has gone Classic Hits, I don't think they will switch, But I am not looking forward to loosing hearing some new music. My perdiction is Star and Joy will switch two days before Thanksgiving.

For those outside of the Buffalo market... PERDICTION is the same as PREDICTING, but with a twist :D

Back to the thread...

I predict there will be a number of predictions but no prediction will be a correct perdiction.

How's that?

The station that needs to do it most, among full-market-coverage FMs in Buffalo is probably Jack 92.9. Star 102.5, which is sinking for whatever reason, is a close second in that regard and needs time to retool, refine its approach, and relaunch its hot AC format.

In Rochester Fickle 93.3 has sunk sharply and needs to bring people back into the tent, and holiday music might help. Warm 101.3 has done it in the past but it seems to be gaining strength and may not want to break the momentum...they might do best to play a couple holiday cuts an hour alongside their regular music between Thanksgiving and the 20th of December, and gradually ramp up to wall to wall Santa on Christmas Eve morning.

Strictly to throw something out there, is anyone going to change format?
Christmas music on Nov.1 (should it happen) sounds too much like stunting to me, rather than the intended format.

Would anyone have selected Swing 1270? They changed over today, November 9th. They're running old holiday radio serials, along with holiday standards. They even had a big ad in the News today. It's just too early for holiday music though. And I'm sure there are those who would argue that a previously under-utilized AM signal doesn't count in the holiday sweepstakes. All eyes are on the date when WJYE and/or Star 102 will make the switch to holiday music.

Hey? Did they do anything for Halloween? AM 740 failed to air the traditional original War of the worlds. I hope Swing at least did...

Back to the topic of Xmas music, the day after Thanksgiving is when I expect WJYE and Star 102 to go all Christmas.

Traditionally Star & 'JYE have gone Christmas on the Thursday before Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be surprised to see Star go early this year. The numbers ain't so good...

That's probably a good idea. I had completely forgotten about them.

Ok but it's still weird how they make it appear to be only a one week thing.

??? Perhaps they mean the Christmas radio shows are the one week thing and the "Holiday music" will continue? ??? ??? ???

I called Jack to get a response to this and he said, "All Christmas music? We don't need no stinkin' All Christmas music!" He told me to "lose his number and 'f-off'" then hung up.

LMAO!!!! you need to submit this to BUF!! Id bet they would use it...

I'm not sure when it happened as I don't listen to them that often but when I tuned in this morning, Star 102 is now "Buffalo's Christmas Station"...

Star & Joy both went today. I'm not sure who went first, but it was inevitable that once one went, the next would soon follow. This is even earlier than usual. Is that the smell of desperation in the air?

Gee whiz...no mention of the website changes here!!

Both have done that also... (good marketing consistancy, too bad my turkey for Thanksgiving isn't even defrosted yet)

I'm in the Christmas spirit!!! ???

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread....

HDBG

If there were such a thing as Thanksgiving songs, I'm sure they'd get played first, before all this Christmas music! :D
