November DFW numbers

November numbers: Dallas/Fort Worth

What has happened to KSPF The Spot? Big plummet in recent months. Same thing for its Houston sibling.

Looks like DFW listeners have been discovering Air1 (KYDA).

LMN has to do something with KFZO, which is in oblivion territory.

What in the World has The Spot changed? In the past 6 months, I can't tell any difference whatsoever. That's REALLY odd.

Interesting.

I'm surprised to see EMF's religious rimshot on 101.7 coming in with a 3.4 share -- that puts them ahead of a half dozen of the full-signal Cedar Hill FMs.

It's also interesting to see the way that the political talk stations seem to be fading -- WBAP is down from a 3.0 share in June to a 1.7 share now. And it's not as if the audience has gone to another news/talk station, since KRLD-AM is down from a 1.5 to 1.0 in the same period, KSKY is flat at 0.7, and KLIF is down from a 0.4 in June to a 0.2 in the latest book. What a change from back in the days when WBAP was consistently in the top five.

Interestingly, KERA-FM is up from a 2.5 to a 4.7 in the same period, but I'm going to guess that's not where the audience went. But KERA had a larger audience in the current book than all four of the commercial political news/talk stations combined.

I wonder what would happen if 98.7 The Spot transitioned to Classic Rock? It seems like they have been playing a lot of 90’s stuff that would fit better with the Classic Rock format. In the past couple of days I’ve heard stuff like Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun and Nirvana - Come As You Are.

I wonder if transitioning to Classic Rock would help keep 98.7 and 100.3 separate? We’ve seen in the past that they can both be at the top of the ratings at the same time.

Depends on if people listen to formats or music. Do you think it makes a difference what they call it?

The Spot in Houston has also taken a nosedive. It too has huge cume.

Yeah. Because I would also expect them to get rid of certain songs if they would call themselves a Classic Rock station instead of a Classic Hits station. People listen to music, but formats still exist.

I don't think it makes any difference. Top 40 stations played Nirvana and other grunge bands in the early 90s, so it fits the Hits format just fine.

I've noticed that JACK and SPOT have added a ton of 90's and 2000's rock. It's hard to segue from Nu Shooz to Radiohead to Eddie Murphy to Shinedown.

Eagle's music has gotten better in the sense they seem to have taken off some of the songs they shouldn't have been playing, but they rarely play anything from the past 25 years and even more rarely play anything from the past 10 - and NEVER play any of the massive hits on the actual rock charts.
