November PPM Numbers!

My parents have done it, so I know. That being said, how was the tune out factor not realized until just a few years ago? I have no idea whether KBKS is performing at the level iHeart wants it to or not.

Again, the broad strokes and generalities, define "mediocre performance". Also, how do you know Kiss is not performing at the level local iHeart management has in mind?

Knock of the hyperbole. What I am "ok with" in radio is irrelevant and the same goes with what you think, it's what the listeners want. Do you know how fast people tune away from a radio station the second the music stops? Some listeners put any jock talk in the same classification as a commercial, and they tune out right away.

Fact of the matter is, the "morning zoo" concept of radio is long dead and gone. The only kind of stunt that really works nowadays are the prank calls Jubal does on Movin', and that's because we're in such a voyeuristic society.
You mean faked phone calls with voice actors. Let's be real shall we. All those calls are canned it's a service - all stations have access for the most part to the same resources be it phone taps war of the roses or Joe Schmoes wacky phone calls. Heard the SAME calls on air in Charlotte and Cincy as well.... Why bother trying to keep the lie alive...People don't care because they are stupid and want to be entertained....that's the key Entertain...and 90% of that comes from the music your station plays and the rest is content out side of AM drive. AM drive needs to create the content for the most part to bring people, to be sticky, to be the free sample at the end of the isle to get people to stick come back and buy the product. What do I know though -

So Marc, how are things going over in Factoria? Got anything new for KLCK-FM? Got an idea for you, hard core rap..."Gansta 98.9"! (OK, I know this won't work, but it was great for a laugh.)

Why bother trying to keep the lie alive...

What lie is that?

People don't care because they are stupid and want to be entertained....that's the key Entertain...

That's correct, so why are you freaking out over the source of phone bits?

Music isn't pure entertainment to all, there are other emotional components to it.

That is true, but as you said earlier "people don't care" about whether it has been aired in other markets. Remember the old line "theater of the mind?" Like it or not, their phone taps are exactly that. The difference being it doesn't fit your personal agenda or the way you like to hear things, it seems that knowledge of the calls being aired in other markets disqualifies the entire notion they can be entertaining. While it's true people are stupid, in this case people don't care about the source of the calls.

Seems to me no different than Charlie Brown doing the character voice of Clydee, Maynard doing Roy Otis, or the long laughing fits Gary Lockwood used to do with Police Blotter. All just theater of the mind which I'm sure the Seattle radio history fans here would consider groundbreaking bits.

Oh, great. With those reminders of the ol' days we'll soon see a barrage of "bring back Robin & Maynard" and "bring back Pat Cashman" posts.

I would agree with you on some of this. Emotional component is spot on. What I said and let me rephrase it was that those same calls are on in other markets. So outside of us radio geeks who listen to other markets the average listener here won't here those calls - that's what they are banking on. My husband doesn't care that they are all fake he still enjoys them and laughs and that really is my main point.... Entertain. I will say for the time being the phone taps etc are entertaining to those uneducated masses and that's who we/ you / us are all targeting.... so, as much some may hate on them the fact that they do "entertain" no matter what level you think they do it at success can't be taken away. I would say the best analogy is "Reality TV" it aint real but how many gobble down the silly fodder and tune in again and again... No not going gangster rap on Click - I will let others pontificate on what they think is next. Gotta go shove some holly in my pipe and get jiggy under the mistletoe - Peace out!

Why are you so fixated on the source of the bits and audience character assassination?

I'm just hoping I live long enough to hear "Retro Radio KIXI" play a Frank Sinatra song, followed by some of the stuff they "edit for content"... then play on KUBE at night! :)

..."as cool now as it was then!!"

To make the magic complete, the songs would be introduced over a ribbon microphone and through an old tube-type console, by someone with the vocal qualities of Bob Liddle.

LOL!

I don't believe this "Marc Hubbard" is Marc Kaye from Hubbard, and if I'm right than this person who complaining about 'fake' calls is actually using 'fake calls' in this case a fake name to hide who they are. Zero credibility at that point in my view.

I would assume that the morning daypart has been working well for KKWF these past few months; Entercom put together a new studio for Fitz.
