November Radio Ratings

Nice turnaround for US 99.5 these past several surveys!!!

The programming changes CBS made a while back have clearly paid off. 95.5 is no longer competitive and appears to be ailing...big time.

And taking on one of the best-run and best-programmed Alternative stations in the country? Sounds like a suicide mission to me.

Big 95.5 would've been much more successful if iHeartMedia put Bobby Bones in mornings instead of a lackluster morning show.

The so-called "lackluster morning show" was getting great ratings a year ago. Perhaps the problem is they're just getting their butts kicked by US99.

BTW Bobby is currently on the Big 95.5, but at 8PM.

And Bobby isn't helping iHeart's Bull in Boston.

My point is that when iHeartMedia launches a country station in a given market, it usually means to have a clearance to bring The Bobby Bones Show into that market. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for Chicago when Big 95.5 launched in 2015.

What you said was that if they had, the station would have been more successful. That's not true. They were very successful at first, and even caused US99 to fire their own successful heritage local morning show and their PD. Who coincidentally now works for iHeart in another market.

And as I said, they launched a new country station in Boston with Bobby Bones, and the station is languishing in the ratings.

With an extremely challenged signal.

That reminds me of a similar situation at Eagle 92.9 in Florence, SC when Mudflap and Palmer, both who have served as the Assistant Program Director/Music Director and Program Director at the station, respectively were laid off as part of iHeartMedia's talent cuts in May and iHeartMedia replaced their "lackluster" morning show with Bobby Bones. Mudflap and Palmer have since resurfaced on rival station 99.3 The Cat.

3 book 25-54 average over the "Summer" period: WKLB 4.6 and WBWL 2.7.

WKLB has 3.7 million in its 65 dbu; WBWL has 2.6 milllion.

If we look at delivery vs. coverage, the two are tied. And WKLB was in the high 6 share range before WBWL went country, so it looks like most of the Bull listeners came from 102.5.

If the objective was to frag a top station, it worked.

Getting back on topic, iHeartMedia was looking to frag US 99.5 when they flipped 95.5 to country.

As I said, it worked for about a year. They were almost tied for a few books. It caused US99 to replace their PD and morning show. Then US99 got better.

Had iHeartMedia put The Bobby Bones Show on Big 95.5, Chicago would've been the largest radio market to carry that show.

I'm fairly certain that iHeart isn't worried about beating WUSN - 95.5 sells well in a package deal with LIT and KSC. I don't expect any sort of format change to WEBG, at least any time soon.

Definitely surprised that they didn't decide to carry Bones, but their current morning show is far superior to Holla and Bling-Bling on B...er....US99.5.

Washington D.C. is currently the largest radio market to carry The Bobby Bones Show, which is on 98.7 WMZQ.
