November was a great month for Country. KWNR was #1 for the month due to a huge boost in TSL. COYOTE was above their normal range as well.
Even if they were #4 in the trend, I still predict SUNNY will be #1 25-54 for the Fall book due to how big their Christmas music December will be. LA NUEVA has an outside chance of being #1 because they will be dropping off an unusually soft September. MIX will be dropping off a huge September so I would be surprised if they can maintain #1.
FRESH didn't have a good November but it looks like they shaved off some share away from the two stations they are attacking..SUNNY and MIX.
KKLZ had their worst month since switching to classic hits. I'm burned on most of their regular playlist, but I want that station to succeed enough so they stick with the format...just so I can still listen to American Top 40-The 70s.That has to be one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever heard on the radio.
With all the new formats, one station we never think about or discuss any more is JACK..yet KKJJ was top 5 for the month and is beating all the newer formats such as FRESH, KKLZ, and PARTY.
Speaking of PARTY, it will probably never happen but I would personally love it if they would move in more of a Mega/Jammin' oldies direction. I wonder how long Whoppi will be doing mornings? I can't even imagine her doing the show a year from now, but you never know.
Terrible month for rock, especially KOMP. I think this was just a case of one of those strange flukey
things that can happen in any individual month. Speaking of which, just as I had predicted the OASIS did rebound in November after two fluke super low months in a row.
Another one of my predictons came true. A few months ago I guessed that during footall season ESPN RADIO 920 would be the #1 AM station 25-54. Well not only were they the #1 AM in November, KBAD beat several FM stations including KKLZ, FRESH, EXTREME, PARTY, and their own sister station KOMP. Of course this could be one of those individual month flukes. Still it's good to see a station with lot's of local programming do well.
Since everyone on here loves to talk about K-DAWN, they had a good month in both afternoons with Michael Savage as well as evenings. A good portion of the nightly talk war is now two advice shows. Tape delayed Dr Laura on KXNT Vs Roy Masters on KDWN. They both did OK, but I found it interesting that Masters won for the month of November. Laura's show is more mainstream while Master's is more thought provoking. they both have been known to scold their callers, but Roy sounds like he has gotten kinder through the years. Other than that, Masters sounds exactly like he did 30 years ago...he is still really sharp. I am happy he is still on the radio.
When KXNT announced their new lineup, Jack mentioned on the air that Dr Laura was an alternative to Delilah. I thought that was kind of funny because they have such different styles. Deliah is sugary sweet while Dr Laura yells at many of her callers (and has a right to IMO). Well it's probably a coincidence but Delilah on SUNNY has trended down since Dr Laura has been on at night, especially in November.
Speaking of nightly advice shows. There is a Spanish language sex/relationship show that is huge on RECUERDO. It is #2 at night and was #1 25-54 in Novemeber, by far the highest daypart for KRGT.
