November Ratings

Like other Salem Communications stations, WIND doesn't subscribe to Arbitron.

Thus, since Arbitron's policy changed regarding not showing non-subscribing stations a few months back, WIND hasn't appeared in the Chicago reports for a while.

I noticed WFMT is also not listed. They probably don't have any money to pay for that kind of thing.

WFMT's owned by Window to the World Communications (WTTW, the big PBS station). They have the money. They've become close to a commercial/non-com hybrid these days and perhaps don't need the ratings numbers that much.

"Also sinking consistently and now having its worst numbers this year is WLS-FM. Since this summer, when Program Director Jan Jeffries began playing less Oldies and more Classic Rock, as well as silencing its DJs, the station's shares have fallen by .5. With its Cume, TSL and all other key numbers falling as well, it does not appear the station's change in direction has pleased its longtime listeners or attracted enough new ones to replace the lost ones. WLS-FM now falls to #8 and will most likely be well out of the Top 10 by the end of the year."

Not a surprise after drastically changing the music. Not only do the listeners not like these changes, but bringing in good DJs and not letting them speak is ludicrous. Even more insulting to listeners is putting favorite Dick Biondi during the night hours.

Jan Jeffries has ruined the station.

Another place that has been talking about the WLS-FM changes is Chicago Media Chat. They seem to think that PD Jan Jeffries is destroying the station on purpose. I have a hard time understanding this. They make it like some kind of plot. Maybe they are right this was a very good station prior to it being sold its now not suited to wrap my garbage in

Be known ahead of time these two places are a lot a like in makeup they seem to be way different in terms of attitude it is made clear they dont care for one another.

I know that reality bites, but in the four months prior to the changes, the station started at 14th in 25-54 and ended that period at 15th. It moved to 12th and then 11th after the changes, with much better share numbers in "The" sales demo.

The article quoted shows somewhat of a misunderstanding of ratings.

Arbitron measures only two things: cume and TSL. All the other numbers, like share, rating and AQH persons, are derivatives of cume and TSL. To say that "cume and TSL fell as well" is a rather silly statement since share is based on them.
