Election trend was good for KIRO and KTTH finishing number one and two 12+ on the rolling and in the November extrap. KIRO looks stronger than usual thanks to the station being listed as an AM/FM combo and the election month. Big winners in November extrap in prime demos 6a-7p were KIRO, KISW, KZOK, KPLZ, KCMS and KUBE. Mornings went to KIRO, KISW, KUBE, KPLZ and KCMS in the prime demo. For the month of November Country seemed to take a bit of a hit, but on the rolling average KMPS looks fine. Tough month for KWJZ again, KQMV, KNDD, KKWF and the remaining AM stations. The only real surprise is the strength of the KIRO AM/FM combo. Will be curious to see if they stay on top after the election and if they really take the AM sports. Extraps and single books mean little, but do show the monthly impact of a major election. Will the audience stay with KIRO AM/FM and KTTH? Time will tell.

How did election month KIRO do with their 7PM to 12AM non-election coverage?

Speaking of nights KUBE reaffirmed its dominance at night and across the board 18-34 in the last couple of trends with numbers in double digits Combined with buying KBKS Clear Channel will own the 18-34 demographic. KBKS nights were third and afternoons top 5 in the 18-34 demo in the last couple of trends. KBKS mornings and mid-days are about half the AQH of afternoons and night numbers which may be the reason changes are rumored in those shifts.
KISW remains a strong second in the 18-34 demo. KQMV has faded in the last couple of trends. This book belonged to KIRO, KISW and KUBE in the respective demos. KZOK and KPLZ had a nice showing in adult demos as did KCMS. I am a bit surprised by the decline of KWJZ and wonder why KJR-FM has picked up the old KBSG numbers. Guess that is for programmers to figure out in 2009.

I wish I liked KJR-FM. I like 70s music. I like 80s music. I like late 60s music. Somehow, the way the station is put together just doesn't connect with me. I miss KBSG. Occasionally KZOK hits it on the money for me, but not often enough.djdan said:
It's just my two cents but KJR-FM sounds like Seattle oldies. KBSG was always waaay too milquetoast for me - Herman's Hermits were a staple. And the" personalities" were awesome in their blandness.

To me, the bottom line is TBTL sounds completely disconnected from the rest of KIRO. I think Ron & Don are a waste of good Bonneville electricity but even they have kind of settled in a bit. Burbank might as be doing the show in Tulsa. And you can tell just by what's NOT said, voice inflection, etc - the rest of KIRO agrees. It is a very odd fit.
My guess is KIRO will rool into spring with big numbers - this weather is a big ol' gift to them, dropped by Santa.

He does sometimes do the show from LA, Chicago and other remote locales if I recall from when I gave it the "due chance" right after it started. Not sure if he still does that but it occurred with such frequency I found it a bit weird. Sometimes he'd even pre-record a show from LA and I guess just email the MP3 to KIRO to play. Once, when his flight was delayed, he did the show over a cell phone from the terminal of Sea-Tac. That could actually have been a clever one-off gimmick if it was intentional but, pathetically, it wasn't. When I went to the KIRO website to message a kudos to Frank Shiers for his bang-up job I saw a little note from Burbank that said he had to take today off because he was visiting his parents and didn't think he'd have time to make it into the station.
It sounds like the radio show is just a hobby, not his job, or at least main job. I'm thinking he must have something else going on the side or is maybe doing some other work at KIRO like imaging or sales or helping out at reception or something.

New to the Seattle board. Want to wish all a happy holiday season. This entire trend is all about the election and election only. You will see KMPS and Wolf improve greatly in the coming months. I feel really bad for the people at CBS, especially KISS FM. They will soon be replaced by clearchannel syndication soon. Tough times ahead for air talent in 09. I wish you all the best. It is horrible for anyone to be out of work. 09 WILL EVEN WORSE FOR LAYOFFS..ESPECIALLY CBS PROGRAMMING.

I completely agree. There is something about 70s and 80s music that just does not mesh, though I like both decades' music, I am a bit more fond of the 70s. I've said it far too many times here but we should have two oldies/classic hits stations in this town. One for 60s/70s Top 40 and one for 80s and early 90s Top 40.SeattleObserver said:

followtheformula is the first cowboy dude on this board that has made sense in some time ;D Course the election hurt the country stations and they will be back though it may take an extra trend cause that Christmas music non-stop at WARM wreaks havoc with the country stations too

JJR and my dallas boy Kraddick are doing pretty well depending on the market carrying the cowboys 8) I know JJR are kickin tail in Phoenix and I think they have improved the numbers in Portland but ain't got that for a fact

Seacrest has not been in syndication long enough to provide solid ratings information in major markets. Kidd Kraddick does very well in Dallas and in markets in the south, but is not very strong outside of the regional in my humble opinion. John Jay and Rich do well in Tucson and Phoenix but have yet to demonstrate strength outside of Arizona. In my view, KBKS has had difficulties for some time now and while the syndication option may not do better, but it probably won't be worse and certainly cheaper. It also protects KUBE from attack. If I were MOVIN I would invest in the CHR product and attack KBKS with a strong morning show and promotion. Clear Channel does not have the money to defend itself.
