Now 104 and 94.5 have something in common....

No mixshows. I listened last night to catch "Saturday Night Jamz", and all I heard was Tony B.. 94.5 sounds even worse since they dropped the "K-Soul" name. They also changed the name of some of their shows ???. Do KRNB have KSOC that nervous?

K-Sock apparently thrives on being aimless, as that's been the rule since 2003. If I was Radio One, I'd be MORE concerned with The Beat dropping off some points in the last trend. Is rap finally falling out of vogue, or is The Beat just not what it used to be? (But we all know when the summer months start figuring into the trends, Kiss, K-104 and Beat will be back up to #1-2-3...so any concern is probably useless.) K-Sock should flip to Smooth Jazz, and quickly, before someone else does...the market can't support more than one.

What good would smooth jazz be on that signal. That format needs a signal that can be HEARD!!!!!

I think KRNB and KSOC can co-exist. True enough they are both R&B stations, but KRNB focuses more on current mix of today's R& B and Neo Soul. KSOC is a mix of today's R&B and Classic Soul. There are enough listeners for both to survive.

True, Smooth Jazz needs (and deserves) a full stick. That Gainesville signal of 94.5's is still pathetic (tho I hear it's in Ethel, TX, now, which does little to bring the xmtr any closer to DFW.) Then again, the upwardly-mobile white folks who listen to K-Sock are well within the signal's reach (Collin/Denton counties, plus central and north Dallas, Mid-Cities, etc) and 35+ black listeners (who are VERY faithful to this format, as I've said ad nauseum on this board before) are already used to extending and re-stapling the dipole to get K-Sock anyway.

Still stands to reason that you'd put Smooth Jazz on 105.3, and move KLLI's format over to KRLD (I mean, how much worse can KRLD get? I see absolutely no risk there, and besides, add 1.4 and 1.9 and you get a solid 3.3!!!! (too bad it doesn't work that way.) Jagger mornings, Ernie Brown and whassis middays, Russ afternoons, and Sports Central at night. Also a nice and convenient way to clear out some of the programming that's bringing both stations down.

Pardon this goof...can't seem to delete it. Text is on the next post.

I earlier said, "Then again, the upwardly-mobile white folks who listen to K-Sock are well within the signal's reach..."

I meant that the upwardly-mobile white folks who would be listening to a Smooth Jazz format on 94.5 are well within the signal's reach.

The 94.5 signal is something we've discussed several times on the board...KDNT's Mel Wheeler got screwed when he traded 106.1 for 94.5 in the early 80s. I hope he got some serious money for the trade, since 106.1's now worth multi-millions, while 94.5 is hardly garage sale worthy. Ginsburg and company tried to upgrade 94.5's signal when they put KDGE on the air in 1989, but of course, successor Clear Channel dumped out of it and traded for 102.1 in 2000. Somewhere along the way, I believe the xmtr ended up in Collinsville, then to the new antenna farm in Ethel a couple of years back. The station used to run periodic promos every couple of years, touting a 'power upgrade'...but damned if I can tell any signal difference between 1982 and now.

The last relocation of the 94.5 antenna resulted in a slight improvement in signal strength in the Collin County and northern Dallas County areas, since it was moved a little to the east. But you're not imagining things, Mike. Overall the signal really is about the same as before, although it should be interesting to see what effect their on-channel booster in Lewisville has when it signs on. It will help with building penetration in the southern parts of the KSOC city-grade contour (North Dallas, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Coppell etc.). But it could cause trouble in areas where the two signals clash unless they get it exactly right, and basically if you're in the fringe now that's where you'll stay, booster or no booster.
