Now 97.5 = Max 95.7 Clone?

Seems a bit more like one of the variants of Mix 95.7 so far--their softer phase. Max seemed to take a little harder edge than Now is taking.

Beat me to it. Max seemed to go for a more Hot AC/Modern AC sound to steal females away from Y100. Now is looking to put a gutshot into B101 with a more "Fresh AC" sound.. without using the Fresh moniker.

So when does the all-Christmas war start? (Sorry, had to say it--unless Now takes the counter-programming approach of playing their, you know, actual format, until closer to the holiday).

Yeah, get back to me when Now 97.5 is playing the Violent Femmes "Add It Up" or "Kiss Off".

Now sounds a lot like their sister Magic 98.3 in New Brunswick, NJ. Fresh 102.7 in New York City sounds different than Now 97.5 does. They should have just called it Magic 97.5 and simulcasted 98.3 to cut costs.
97.5 should have stunted with all-Christmas from last Friday up till December 31. That would be memorable, and they would be known as "that Christmas station" through the holiday season. Nothing is better than hearing Christmas music when it's 90 degrees outside.

No doubt, they'll be the first to go all Christmas and remind you that it's YOUR Christmas station, not your mother's.

I'm sure the three people who will be listening will keep that in mind. ;D As we all know, B101 will have the endless Santa tunes lined up (ugh), and before anyone ever knows Now is Christmas, the war will be over before it's really started.

This just seems too easy for B 101 to crush them like a bug. The B has fended off all of the challenges to their fringe; only Ben has really had any staying power of the recent entrants, and 98's overlap is even less than Ben's.

So unless Greater Media wants to invest a load of cash on this thing (not out of the question; they shoveled out the money to get Preston & Steve--like them or not, they're successful), how does going head-on against the B make sense? The music seems no different to me at this point; what else will they distinguish themselves with?

It would have made more sense to take 97.5 and make it similar to Alice @ 97.3 in San Francisco. Upbeat, 90's and NOW type music. Almost like a soft Alternative station. Ben could have been allowed to play the late 70's and 80's music. Just my 2 cents worth.

That certainly might have been a better approach than challenging the B dead on.

Call me crazy but that tastes like a bottle of 2008 Alice 104.5. Some lovely top notes of the 95.7's, both Mix and Max. A somewhat unsatisfying finish reminiscent of 96.5 The Point.

I think it might be of great value to realize that Modern AC isn't going to attract the type of crowd advertisers are looking for around here.

"I hope you know that this is going on your permanent record!"

good, they can play all the newer songs, and remake songs, and B can finnally sound like sunny did during the hoildays. Back when there was a sunny, B would play all the new junk, but since Sunny's been gone they've had kinda of mix.

Doesn't really make sense. If the mix works for them, why go to what didn't win when it was on Sunny while someone else does what did work for the B?
