Now 97.5's fake listeners

It looks like the higher-ups at Greater Media already deleted the "fun" posts on the Now messageboard.

I got such a charge out of the message boards on Now's website when I noticed that so many of the first posts were posted last night. I doubt the typical radio listener has even logged on to the website or posted on the board. It's actually quite amusing how they planted different posts in different writing styles by different people in different locations. Wow.

Two thumbs up to the poster "nowwwwww" who posted quite a few good posts earlier today. Great stuff.

The messageboard is too funny.

"Thanks! I feel like I really belong to this station already! I was just saying to a friend the other day that what we need in Philadelphia is a station that plays all my favorites from the 80s 90s and today...a station I can listen to in my Dodge Caravan while my four kids get all sticky with melted chocolate in the back seat. I'm not getting any thinner, you know, and the uptempo music is gonna burn some of these pesky calories! Girls, since we just wanna have fun, let's listen to the new NOW 97.5 FM! And have a slumber party or something. It'll be fab! Oops...the 2-year-old just fell out the back window...gotta run for now. TTYL."

This is great stuff. At least the radio junkies are getting something to laugh at over at the station's website. I bookmarked the board just to see what new posts appear when I log in tomorrow morning. Too funny...

That message board is full of fake people and radio geek satire. The lack of any real posts means no one cares. Seriously, a post about an imaginary baby's weight will not get the station higher ratings.

First off, they really shouldn't have a messageboard yet. All they're gonna have posting their are people from here, and angry jjz listeners. If any are left.

Second, if they must post fake stuff, they could atleast try to make them not so obvisous.

Here's how I would write WuttaLoad post, if I was some chick who fell in love with a new station so fast.

Thanks! I feel like I really enjoy to this station already! I was just saying to a friend the other day that Philly radio stinks, because none of them play the stuff I like. Your new station so8unds like something I might be able to listen to while my four kids get all dirty in the back seat. I also like the uptempo music. Oops...the 2-year-old just fell out the back window, and cracked his head open. I think he might be dead...gotta run for now.

Aww, just checked the board. Someone from GM must be spying over here, because all of WuttaLoad's posts, including the one I quoted have been deleted. I know that was a fake user, since her posts were all posted on Sunday.

This station might have even fewer listeners than Smooth Jazz...I mean really, do you see alot of radio's switching from B101 to some unknown station with a crappy signal in most places? Doubt it. Expect a 1.5 or 1.8 at most here...

I'm hoping they get a PD who has experience with the Philly market (but not one of the many who though Modern AC was the way to go) to switch things up a bit and make them a real player. I'd like a Soft AC or a truly competitive Hot AC. I don't care if they don't dethrone B101 and no one else should be fooled into thinking Greater Media cares about that either. They just want to make some coin off of it and I'm hoping they do it by giving me something I can actually enjoy. They're off to a great start by doing commercial-free weekdays. Why would I listen to B101 at work when I can listen to Now 97.5 with no interruptions?

Sunny 104.5 had commercial free Christmas music workdays at one time, and B101 followed suit

Did they really? I'm amazed that I, of all people, don't remember that? Sunny's Christmas format without any commercials sounds like a dream come true. LOL. I'd probably listen to it all year long. haha

Seems like they deleted all the radio geek posts and added new fake people to that site. Hopefully the moderator is laughing at the sophomoric responses.
It's sad that 97.5's own message board needs fake people to give a sense of activity, but another radio station has a message board operated by someone completely independent of the station and it has many active posters.

Are the responses sophomoric? Or are they soporific? ;)

"But I want my dinner NOW. I don't want it after 15 minutes. My wife Jenn from West Chester, PA is really short on time to invite her girlfriends to dinner so we can listen to Now 97.5 together." -rightNOW

Judge for yourself

Now that the message board requires moderator approval for posts, I posted this on the Now 97.5 forum

Perhaps fake people that posted on this board before the station even launched isn't a good idea if you want this message board to be taken seriously. I understand that you want to create a sense of community among the listeners, but this is outright deception. I really hope your station is successful. I personally like it better than B101 and 97.5 is on my presets now. The music mix is so much better than 101.1 and even 99.5. Magic 98.3 in NJ was my favorite AC station before Now 97.5 launched. Just keep that annoying Delilah off 97.5 and you got me hooked.

The fake "testimonials" on the homepage are cheesy. Nobody believes it at all. If anything, it's a good idea to put up real testimonials on the homepage since some listeners like to see their name there.

The tactics you used on this website just managed to irritate a community of radio professionals online, and this is not the best way to start a brand new format. Nobody cares about a fake kid in kindergarten, or a fake idiot who doesn't know how to use quicken, or a fake chick obsessed with natasha bedingfield. It would be a good idea to add a board asking for listener's suggestions to improve the station.

It might be too early for a message board on this site, on day 1 of Now 97.5. Perhaps a live chat would also work because you target at-work listeners, and people get bored at work.
