Now FM Mornings

Anyone know when they will bring in a morning crew for NOW, Its almost been four months since the flip and that seems to be the only shift not filled in. Anybody have any news about if they are looking for a crew, and if it will be more music intensive then Z100.

Word was rampant for some time they wanted Don Theodore's mentor, BJ Harris, morning star at KALC/Denver. He's still there for whatever reason, contract he can't break or no interest by either party or some such. Perhaps they're waiting for his deal to end. No other names have been thrown around as much as his. Anyone got another name? Bueller? Bueller?

Do you honestly think CBS is going to spend a dime for a morning show on that disaster?

Pull your heads out of your gashes!!!

CBS hasn't even put a morning show on AMP in LA and that's actually doing well. And they brought Booker all the way out there to do middays.

NOW ain't hiring a morning show and NOW ain't gonna enjoy a one year anniversary party... no how!

They should just stick to playing music in the morning with breaks for weather and traffic done by 880 or 1010. Also anyone think AMP will get a morning show?

Dosen't look like AMP wll get a morning crew. But knowing Dom, who does a fantastic job programming CHR stations. There will be a morning show for NOW sometime in the future. Even on the CBS website they have an add up for a 6am-10am morning host.

If NOW didn't have a morning show, why not put Kermit the Frog in mornings, or maybe a syndicated "Bob & Sheri" show. I love B&S so much and it would be a good fit for NOW. The show is from North Carolina and maybe Bob Lacey & Sheri Lynch will carry a morning show in NY. It is way better than Imus, O&A and Howard Stern. That's not going to happen. The show is heard on WCTW's "The Cat". There's no need to put Bob & Sheri in NY radio, not happening!

Are you having an argument with yourself? ???

HAHAHAHAHA
Uhhh....props to the Bob and Sheri guy!
I don't think NOW should add a morning show, but you never know what that station is up to anymore.
Poor management, that's all I can say.
The reason why AMP in LA is doing sooo well is because of their unique take on the CHR format. AMP is doing something that other CHRs have never attempted, focusing on the music more than the personalities and even cutting back on things other CHRs depend on like prizes.
That's what NOW should be doing, but it seems they want to be more traditional and not try something different like what AMP's doing. And with all the competition from all the other stations in NY, it makes things harder for NOW to operate. Stick without a morning show because every station has one! If people get tired of listening to talk in the morning, people will come to you.

During mornings on the weekends does Now air traffic and weather? Thats all you really need in between every 3 or 5 songs or everything 15 mins a traffic and weather update.

1. Dom is doing a terrible job of programming a CHR right now and a worse job of staffing it.

2. if he's expecting a morning show that answers an ad, to compete against highly successful shows already here, that are entrenched and beloved, he is sadly mistaken. How could they still not have a plan in place?

I would venture a guess that the ad is just there to meet equal opportunity requirements, but that still doesn't explain CBS' total inaction with 92.3 NOW.

NOW joins the ranks of RXP in terms of wasted potential. If Pulse had a full market signal, it would beat NOW and RXP combined.
What NOW needs: a good morning show, less repetition, no Chunky. The commercial free Mondays stunt should work well. Play some rhythmic CHR music that Z100 doesn't play that 87.7 plays like Pitbull - Hotel Room. Try to start a "radio war" for publicity, such as showing up at Z100 and Pulse 87 events.
What RXP needs: a consistent alternative format, much like 92.3 HD2 and G-Rock. It should be not afraid to play new music and target a growing niche

I agree that RXP and NOW have so much wasted potential, it's not even funny. RXP sees that alternative rock leaves the airwaves, and they still decide to stick with AAA. While they're "trying" to catch the old K-Rock audience, you can still tell it's an AAA station that enjoys playing songs from the 80's and 90's.
NOW is worse. It just is confused. While in the last few months they've been improving, they're still confused on what they want to do, who they want to target etc. NOW should stay without a morning show, because honestly, they don't need one because there isn't many NY stations that stick to music in the mornings. Publicity is something NOW never really focused on. Here in LA, AMP went all over the town, promoting everything they could, placing an AMP sticker on everything they can. And they still do. If you go to ANYTHING around the LA area, you'll be sure to see an AMP truck, or a person in an AMP shirt passing stickers and shirts out. Is that happening in NY? I don't think so. I was even reading the blog of someone who worked at NOW that said "the station doesn't have a big budget for passing station swag out". However, repetition is something Top 40 radio depends on. Remember the BIG phrase, radio doesn't run on listening to it for 10 hours, it runs on listening to it for 10 minutes.

Thats interesting you say 92.3 Now doesn't have the budget to give out t-shirts and stickers. But out in LA 97.1 AMP Radio has the budget. And I got proof that 97.1 AMP Radio gives out stuff as I emailed the station and they sent me in the mail a t-shirt and five stickers. All it cost them was $2.02 to mail it not counting how much the shirt and stickers cost to make. And plus I don't even live in CA for that matter. Anyways getting back to NOW. They should at least spend more money come on now. But I do believe NOW will be here much longer then RXP will.

I got a 92.3 NOW t-shirt the week after NOW launched, they were driving the NOW van around my area so I stopped at the shopping center they were at and they gave everyone a free t-shirt.
It's free advertising if people wear them.
