Now-FM Trends?

Its surprising both CHR stations owned by CBS but one sounds 110% better then the east coast cousin. I would of thought Now might be in the low 3. numbers but that may not happen very soon. Maybe changing the name to 92.3 AMP Radio may help :D

Look for its ratings to increase when Chunky gets fired.
Put Tic Tak on at nights, where he shined in the Philly market on Q102.

How come 97.1 Amp Radio in LA is doing so much better then sister 92.3 Now FM? I would of thought 92.3 would be much higher then they are. Amp needs to help out Now.
Why is AMP doing better than NOW?
Two words. Kevin Weatherly.

There are also two words why KROQ/L.A. (106.7 K-Rock), did much better than WXRK/K-Rock..... Kevin Weatherly.

This would have been a great idea for CBS to have followed through with. Part of why AMP is so successful is the branding. AMP Radio is a unique, fun and most importantly NEW brand to listeners. Its the branding that attracts listeners along with the fact that it actually knows what its doing. Kevin Weatherly actually realized that people want...MUSIC. Not personalities. And they want an alternative to the big CHR (KIIS). He followed through with this. The imaging is out of this world. The playlist is amazing. The sound of the station is awesome! What did NOW do wrong? NOW? That's way to clique. Fun brand? Not really. NOW tried to piggyback off of what AMP did, but NOW never seemed to follow through. Alternative to Z100? Uh...they tried but NOW they're just worse than Z100! They don't even have more than 100 songs on the playlist! AMP has over 100 with a good library of recurrents and that's what I think the key to the station sounding so great is. NOW has 5 recurrents. NOW went a week without personalities. AMP went a month. NOW got DJs that actually talk. AMP got DJs that talk for 15 seconds every 2 songs. NOW should have done what they could to copy the successful AMP brand from LA than doing their own little thing. They could have been successful right NOW! They should have gone 92.3 AMP Radio, with 10,000 Songs in a Row, COMMERCIAL FREE, JOCK FREE!

I think it's to early to say Now fails but I think the low ratings is the lack of a good morning show with weather and travel what's needed to build the station in the other dayparts.

Traffic and weather doesn't automatically mean a good morning show.

Just ask Howard Stern.

Re: Now-FM Trends? and Elvis

How about this in regard to HTZ. I heard someone is taking a trip to push their Z100 show for LA. Since Seacrest is going nowhere does that mean Elvis Duran on AMP? if Clear Channel would never let that happen then where does he go in LA for the Mays boys, maybe a Hot flip or wakeups at Kbig?

I don't think Elvis Duran would leave NY to do AMP. Kevin Weatherly just said in a press release recently that "AMP is not going to have a morning show or even morning host until they need one". Right now, AMP doesn't need one. In fact, they never should get one. AMP provides an alternative for people who want to listen to music in the morning, not Seacrest blabber all morning long. But back to Elvis, Elvis wouldn't match the audience they're looking for. AMP would want a fresh new talent to take over mornings if they ever needed a morning show. I'm not talking about college students, but someone with experience, possibly TV "Hollywood" background, young and someone that would BRING listeners to listen to this guy. No one in LA knows Elvis Duran! This is why I think Ryan Seacrest still does great in mornings on KIIS. He began strong because people said "Hey! It's the guy from Idol! I wanna listen!" compared to if Elvis Duran went on the air "Elvis Duran? Whose that?" I think someone like Perez Hilton would be great if AMP ever had to have a morning personality.
But regarding to which Z-100 personality would go to LA, who would it be? What station would it be? Count Billy The Kidd out. He's going back to Dallas to be with his family. JJ or Joe maybe? They'd seem like they'd be a good fit KIIS though. After all, Boy Toy Jeese, Sissanie and JoJo are starting to VT to other stations. Maybe KIIS wants a personality that can pay attention to LA? I don't know.

On traffic rapports:
Is the difference between LA and NY that, in LA the traffic is always shit and there's no way to avoid traffic jam while in NY you actually plan a different route and save time by listening to the traffic rapports?

That would indicate that NOW needs a morning show while AMP doesn't

In regards to that post about "Someone from Z100" going to LA...I think it's clear the original poster knew who it was....but if it was Elvis he was referring to, it wouldn't be because he was leaving NY. I would imagine that if Amp wanted him it would be to SYNDICATE him there from NY. As for LA saying "who's That?" Elvis' show faced that in Miami and that didn't seem to matter as his in domnating his demo. Doing well in the other cities where they didn't know him.

As for giving a morning show to a guy like Perez Hilton (See Whoopi Goldberg) with no radio experience, a VERY narrow focus, a history of irresponsibility and partying, no REAL claim to fame and major conflicts of interest as he rips all the people he would be talking about and interviewing and of yeah...NO EXPERIENCE, (stop minimizing the industry) you're insane.

That's what WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS are there for. It's really convenient to know how long the Lincoln or Holland tunnels are backed up, and decide accordingly. But most mornings, it's "30 at the Lincoln, 30 at the Holland, 30 at the GWB" so that doesn't do much. It's relatively easy for CBS Radio to send someone down the hall to the Now FM studio in the morning to tell us how long the tunnels are backed up every 10 minutes.
LA doesn't have as much mass transit as NYC. Commuters on mass transit generally don't listen to the radio.

I think most of Now FM's target audience just wants to know if the short bus will arrive on time. When the station goes after a more mature audience, then a morning show might work.

NOW needs to be AMPed. Nearly 3 months on the air and still under 100 songs on rotation?

Agreed. NOW sounds horrible compared to AMP. This is Z100's competition? I like their rhythmic lean to set them apart from Z but with such a tight playlist and bad delivery I don't see how they can do well. It's confusing to me why CBS isn't investing more in the station. They've done a good job with AMP in LA but have seemed to put very little effort into NOW...

LA has many parallel and close freeways, and lots of major surface streets, and essentially no bridges or tunnels.

Amp has 138 songs that played in last 7 days while Now has about 60 songs... a pure top 40, in fact.
