I realize that the cluster of stations was just purchased out in Long Island, but if there's any more money around.....how about JVC Broadcasting (Party 105) buying the 87.7 signal (or at least LEASING it from Island Broadcasting) and putting on Party 105 as a "trimulcast" there!

Granted, the format of the station has leaned a lot more "rhythmic" as of late and would be a "shell" of what Pulse 87 did, but at least you would have a little something and perhaps with a lot of noise out of NYC in terms of the demand, perhaps Party could "tweak" it back to the dance direction?
 
When Party was a dance only station it brought in no revenue. Since the change in format they station is doing very well. WHY would they want to go back to not making money again? If party was to take over Pulse and use the Party format it would make far more money then Pulse ever did.
 
Well, for one thing, let's see what kind of deal Party can get if they decide to purchase Pulse. Maybe the purchase pf Pulse could cost less than the trimulcast.
 
What would be crazier but so great is... Joel and Emmis get together again and bring dance to Pulse 101.9 FM :)

One can only wish...

Do you actually have figures? Because Party has flip-flopped between dance and hip-hop for years now, it's nothing new.
 
OK. Since the subject is brought up in its own thread, I'll comment on it. ;)

I've heard Party 105 on its webstream. From what I've been able to hear, it's more of an urban station than a dance music station. Its website has a background picture of Manhattan streets, even though the station is based near the Hamptons. So its mindset and vision is that of an urban station. So it would make sense for Party 105 to take over the frequency from Mega Media. In a way, it's like a hipster moving into a Brooklyn neighborhood, after a few years getting priced out of the apartment, replaced by someone with a bit more money. That's how I see this transaction (if it indeed it happens).

With the stranglehold on the FM commercial dial by corporations and well-entrenched non-profs, the 87.7 becomes a more desirable territory than it would be if the other commercial stations are more in flux. For example, if 92.3, 101.9, 102.7, 94.7, 93.1, 105.1 or 99.5 was readily available for purchase than I don't think anyone would even kick around the tires at the 87.7 position unless its brokered or ethnic programming. However, considering that even in this economy that a New York radio station is damn difficult to buy when you factor the potential for ROI (not much these days, if ever), the flattened advertising market and fixed expenses, then "That Big Blue Building in Queens" starts looking a little better.

I don't know if Party 105 (if they are the new operators) would have a better go at it than Mega Media could but the chance to properly enter the New York market without a huge outlay in entry costs would be too tempting a proposition to pass up. Island Broadcasting Company surely needs someone to help them cover the cost of owning the transmitter and broadcast equipment.

Because of this Party should be dance heavy, why would you want to go out and buy a new radio to get 877 when you could here the same 50 cent song, or fabulous throw it in the bag on crystal clear 97.1 or 105.1? there has to be an incentive for people to want to tune in to this station. For me pulse was it, all the great dance songs that you couldn't hear anywhere else, INCLUDING PARTY 105. I used to tune in on my MP3 player to hear Pulse. Now i have no reason to tune into 877, cause i'll just listen to 105.3 or my pulse mix cd. That's just me, don't get me wrong I think party 105 is great for Long island cause the only hip-hop we get is 93.7, but now looking at NY there are so many choices for that on the higher part of the dial that if urban is what they play mostly, who's going out of their way to hear that on a weak signal? I can only hope pulse has been an inspiration for party to tweak, and i hope this tweak expands to the 105.3 signal.

I FULLY trust Vic Latino and am confident that he knows what he is doing. And if he feels that the Party 105 format as it is now, has to be tweaked in order to become more danceable to the followers of Pulse 87, he will do it!

I have 100 percent backing on him
 
Actually, I was trying to find the thread here but I had mentioned this just after the Star and Buc Wild show went off the air.

As I first got on Facebook, I was talking with Vic about the days he was at 'KTU. To which I thought to myself, since Pulse 87 had no morning show, why don't they just do a local syndication of Vic's "Vic Latino's Neighborhood" morning show onto Pulse! It wouldn't have cost Pulse much, except having Party tap into their line from 6A - 10A and they could have split the ad percentages somehow.

Kinda fully how everything comes to full circle here! :D

If we want to go back even further than that, there were calls for Jarad Broadcasting to put Party on 92.7, replacing the old WLIR, based on the fact that 92.7's numbers were at their highest in its latter years when the station was more dance-friendly in its music. Of course, that did not happen, and our friends at Univision paid $62 million for a station that isn't breaking a 0.6-0.7 but which is somehow far more "successful" than a station with a 1.0 and a higher cume ::)
