I just got my Sony XDR-F1HD. The reception is every bit as good as others have written. It locks onto HD signals other tuners haven't been able to. Antenna alignment isn't as critical. For instance, with my antenna pointed due-south toward Charlotte, I can still get most of the Greensboro and Winston-Salem HD signals (to the east), and Asheville and Greenville Spartanburg signals (to the west).
But most important of all (as many of the little stations I enjoy aren't HD yet), I now understand what people who live in urban areas (I'm in a VERY rural area) mean when they say that HD doesn't sound any better than analog. This tuner is SO FREAKIN' QUIET on weak analog FM stereo signals, and maintains such wide separation on them, that I can honestly say that, while I still enjoy the dead black backrdound of well engineered HD, there is absolutely nothing about analog FM stereo, even from distant stations, that I find objectionable. Even when there's some hiss, the distortion that usually accompanies it (on weak signals) is absent. I can listen through noise, but not distortion! This tuner lets me do just that (on the VERY FEW stations where noise is an issue). I haven't even tried AM yet. I expect little (if anything) from the AM section. But "Hell's Bells", this thing rocks.
Say you're not "into HD"? SO FREAKIN' WHAT? If you're into RADIO, then you need this tuner. And if you're not into radio, what exactly are you doing here???
