Now Playing Instrumentals on WEZZ/WHPH

I was listening to WEZZ/WHPH, earlier today. They were playing some cool instrumentals.

When will this hodgepodge of many different musical formats come to an end? They need to make up their mind and get with the program.

Heard them say, we had a wonderful ride in the Country, now its time for us to go to the suburbs. My only question is, what suburbs? Last time I checked and visited Clanton and Jemison, they didn't have any suburbs at all.

This station is clueless and doesn't even know what they are doing.

I heard them stunting too last night around midnight. At least you can tell they're stunting, instead of the "back and forth" country and oldies programming they've been running lately, which borders on the ridiculous. They say the format change will be here "before you know it". But then again, they've been promoting this format change for at least two months now. Who knows what their idea of "before you know it" really is??

The suburbs they're talking about are the Birmingham suburbs in Shelby county, primarily Calera, Alabaster, and Pelham areas. I heard them saying that too about moving to the suburbs; it looks as though they're going to be leaving (i.e. moving their focus away from) Clanton. I suppose they figure they're going to try to compete for some of the Birmingham market since WEZZ moved its city of license and xmtr to Jemison. I don't know how they're going to pull that off (compteting with the Birmingham stations), since the primary coverage area barely reaches Alabaster, with some secondary coverage up to the Hoover/Vestavia Hills area. I can't hear the station too well past Homewood, so the signal is definitely not going to cover Birmingham, with any type of listenable signal, by any stretch of the imagination.

Tell me if I am out of place, but with Crawfords aquistion of 92.5 (and now changing its format), would something like 97.7 balance the 92.5 signal out? 92.5 in the north...97.7 in the south and do one format? Just a thought.

In Hoover and points north, WKLD-Oneonta pretty much kills WHPH. You'll just get scattered unlistenable bits of both, but K-97.7 is easier to hear, probably because they have a much cleaner sound to begin with.

You know, those two stations together would make a decent simulcast. Maybe Blount County Broadcasting will buy Schizo 97.7. :)

Crawford's owned 92.5 in Cordova for two years. And since it's way to the NW of the city, even a combination of it and WHPH would still leave a big coverage hole over Center Point/Irondale/Trussville/etc.

Yep, that's true. WEZZ (or WHPH) would have a difficult time covering metro Birmingham because it'd be "bumping" into WKLD up there. Years ago, I used to live around Hoover, between the two signals. Some of our radios would receive WEZZ, some would pick up WKLD, and we had one which picked up WKLD, but you could hear WEZZ underneath it.

Those two stations would make a pretty interesting simulcast, though- one for the northern half of the city, the other for the southern end. Probably still be gaps, though, in places where neither signal could be received, but it'd probably be a lot better scenario than WEZZ "going it alone".

Throw in Thunder 92.7 from West Alabama and you might have a full signal by combining the three. The three combined would probably make more money together than they do apart. Not likely to happen...would be funny though.<P ID="signature">______________

If one person owned both signals, I wonder how that would sound. They would have to get a good engineer to balance the signal between both transmitters.

Thunder is located in Talladega. They now have a CP to move to Munford with reduced power. Munford is located near Talledega. For more info about this CP, check out this link: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?call=WTDR&service=FM

Your idea sounds very interesting. It would be nice, if they were to do it.
