Now Streaming: Monterey Bay Progressive Talk KRXA 540: Peter B Collins and others...

The moment we have been waiting for...Progressive Talk KRXA 540...is now streaming...a new non-Air America progressive talker featuring Peter B Collins, Bill Press, Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, Doug Basham, Stephanie Miller, etc. etc.

The station is licensed to Carmel Valley, California and covers the central California coast and inland (10,000W/500W). The market is #77, covering Monterey, Santa Cruz, etc. - about 550,000 persons 12+.

A huge signal since it's low on the dial at 540kHz. Just read a report from someone who can hear it in Vegas.

Does anyone reading this have a reception report?

Superb timing! With the Mar[ck]s on vacation and Morning Sedition in the hands of its (normally off-air) producers, it is completely unlistenable this week.

Bill Press is an excellent replacement.
______________

So is this another indication that Air America is no longer doing "best ofs?" I notice that Rachel Maddow is filling in for the vacationing Al Franken this week.

BTW, I listened to Stephanie Miller for a little while this morning and found HER to be "unlistenable." Different strokes...

AAR seems to be making an effort to avoid "Best Ofs". Unfortunately, the only really tolerable parts of Morning Sedition this week (other than the occasional phone guest conversations) have been the clips from past programs.

Her months doing the ultra-speedy 5AM show (along with her turns on Tucker Carlson's doomed MSNBC show) have gotten her pacing up and strong for her three-hour fill-ins this week. She's turning into quite a talent.

AAR should dump Springer, and give her back her solo show in the AM.

I listen to her podcasts, usually in the evening, and really enjoy them.
______________

Gotta agree with you. Or I'd like to see her permanently replace Franken. He still "ers" and "ahs" too much, he doesn't finish thoughts, he doesn't seem to prepare much, and his laughing at his own jokes is annoying. One day he was talking about how ironic it was that the U.S. found no weapons of mass destruction when it invaded, but later the insurgents accumulated chemicals that could could be used to make WMD's. A good point, but he LAUGHED about it. Not funny. I didn't like Maddow when she was paired with Lizz Winstead because they also giggled and laughed far too much at their own jokes. She's much better on her own and with the added experience now sounds like a radio pro.

But,like Franken, she laughs at her own jokes far too much.

Here are the other substitutes...for others reading this, please add to the list...it's nice to hear potential new talent...thanks! Indeed, I've often thought about starting a talk radio host substitute YAHOO groups, so people can know right away rather than later...

1 - Morning Sedition (see above)

2 - Rachel Maddow for Al Franken

3 - Peter Werbe for Peter B Collins thru mid-September on 540 KRXA

4 - The Young Turks and Best-Ofs for Mike D Malloy

5 - Bill Press - Doug Basham will be unable to substitute due to technical problems between the two studios - Who will the substitute(s) be???

And: conservative:

6 - Mike Siegel/Seattle 770 KTTH - Who? David Boze?

And: other:

7 - Art Bell???

Tonight, it's Laura Flanders, who also filled in for Seder and Garofalo when Seder was out on paternity leave.
______________

Well, next week you'll get to be impressed in the evening; she just announced that she'll be filling in on The Majority Report all week.
______________

Whoa....Rob, dont mess with my Randi...LOL...i think Randi is just fine where she is....

I was posting about my being pleased with Maddow....I think she is slowly making herself a candidate to replace Franken when he leaves. She is doing it the best way by doing as much work as she can on her own. Word is growning that Franken is going to make the senate run so she should be considered.

Im proud of her strength in delivering a liberal message..just need her to listen more to help draw the guest out further..making the interview even stronger. Otherwise, she is great and deserving of more air time.

Re: Please Post Listings of Progressive Talk Substitutes...

What about LAURA FLANDERS.....i love this woman!!!! She is a great experienced host and has subbed for the Majority Report. I would like to see how she could do to sub for Al and Id like to see her teamed with Rachel and Katheryn. Bill Press maybe a good choice...

Dave Ross might be a good sub as well...if he can spare the time.

Bernie Ward...if he can spare the time.

Don't worry Doc! I won't touch Randi- she did a good show yesterday and she is one of AAR's radio talents, but I don't know if maybe 4 hours is too long?? Too bad Schultz is in the way of her mini-stardom...

Anyway, I think Rachel would do a great Morning Sedition...

Rachel is positioning herself for her own longer show..and i hope she gets it.

Having some fun with you.... to defuse the anger about the Bush speech here :)
Thanks Rob for the randi compliment....but maybe 4 hours is too long but to be
honest I think she really likes doing the extra hour (even if she whines) because she has so much material to deliver....and so many conservatives to yell at...LOL

Schultz is ok but not for Blue States....especially in my area between Boston and Providence....she should be live and Schultz should be delayed...after that its up to the station to make the right decision. Does Schultz get a special deal? Just curious...

To be honest, it might be time to try a new approach with MS. I like the Marks but with the recent successes with local hosts in the morning, it may be time to take the Marks to the evenings or the weekends....where Maron could cut loose with risque and pointed humor. I like the idea of them broadcasting like they have from different places in NYC ...with live audiences....could work....or not....
