Now that KMPC's "Ticket" has been punched...........

Will any part of Sporting News Radio re-surface in L.A.? Or could this be the beginning of the end for that network? Also, I would imagine the Chargers will have no problem finding a new L.A. radio home. Since their flagship station in San Diego is now a Clear Channel FM, perhaps it would give HOT 92, KBIG, or even STAR a much needed shot in the arm to turn Sundays over to football come the fall.

Why would a male dominated sport end up on a female driven format?

Nobody cares about the Chargers in Los Angeles. This is a Raiders town.

I'm probably one of the few Chargers fans in Los Angeles County, but I rarely listened to the radio broadcasts, so it won't be that big of a loss. But mostb1 hit ont the head, there's still an abundance of Raiders fans throughout Southern California, and up until last year, if the Chargers weren't on KCBS-TV on a particular Sunday afternoon, we got the Raiders instead. I wouldn't be surprised if KLSX picks up the Chargers...who knows.

mostb1 wrote "Nobody cares about the Chargers in Los Angeles. This is a Raiders town" --- Umm, I'm a life-long So. Bay native and The Chargers have always been my team... I don't agree with that, and many of my friends do follow the Bolts on radio & TV (Ch 2 has been airing most games the last couple of years) I hope the Chargers will move to KFI - they do serve SD quite well in the ratings (And Not At the expense of KIOZ) I remember KFMB-FM airing Charger games with simulcast on KFMB 760 - if CC Is clever (they are probably not) they would use KFI for the AM simulcast to KIOZ for the games to serve ALL of So. Cal. Just my opinion. Sorry, Raider fan mostb1, many in LA agree with you. You along with those baggy raider fans are WRONG  Joe

KFI's pretty successful as-is. Doubt there's enough call for Bolts games, compared to what's on already. Much better fit for 570.

The observation that this might mean the end of Sporting News Radio Network is very accurate. One wonders how long it can operate without their full time affiliate in Los Angeles. Clearing a willing full time affiliate in any market is difficult enough but a full time affiliate in Los Angeles that didn't receive any network comp won't ever happen again...unless they buy another station (and that's less likely than standards coming back). It's clear the network's (and all the hosts) fate will be decided in the next few months, if not weeks.

As far as the Chargers go, look for them to find a station that won't preempt their games due to baseball and other NFL preempts. That eliminates KSPN (Angels and ESPN network baseball) and KFWB (Dodgers and Westwood One NFL Coverage). KLAC will stick with the Raiders. KLSX might work depending on their Westwood One NFL commitments. Don't forget they duplicated some of the Charger games last year...something they can get away with because of the technicality of "no local team" in this market.

So watch for the scheduling/promotion masters at KLAC to pick up the Chargers and air the games on KTLK "Progressive Sports" 1150 AM.

Having a LA affiliate is critical to the Chargers...and more importantly to their sponsors...

KLSX has no NFL commitments with Westwood One. Their Sunday double header comes from Sports USA/Jones Radio. 1540 picked up some of the Westwood One games in the early part of the season. As for KLAC sticking with the Radiers......even several on-air guys kept asking most of last season. "Are we wasting our time carrying these games?"

The CBS Fm sticks carrying football was a Mel call and since he is gone you're right they are no longer tethered to football. However even a lousy team generates decent ad revenue for an fm station so I would not count on it going by bye from KLSX anytime soon, even if they ditch the "free FM" format as a whole as some have theorized.

RadioFanBoy is right...KLSX gets its Sunday NFL games from Jones and I don't think they'd be willing to give them up. My hunch is they'll continue to take the predictability of two bartered games every Sunday versus what the Chargers are going to be asking, especially when most Charger games will conflict with the second Jones game. Plus KLSX, as I understand, has done a decent job of generating revenue and promotional dollars with this package.

It still leaves the unanswered the question of who will carry the Chargers games this season...in Los Angeles...and shouldn't we be finding out soon...?
