Now that the "BEAT" has stopped....

..who will more than likely take there audience? HOT 107.9 is already hitting hard with the new positioner "Atlanta's ONLY Hip-Hop Station" as of Monday. Not to sure if GROOVE 105.7 will pick up the younger end of 95.5's listeners. STAR 94 and Q100 I'd say would probaly pull more listeners, but neither stations were heavy on hip-hop like 95.5 was. Wouldn't be shocked if some of 95.5's staff ends up at sister station POWER 100.1 in Athens.

I believe The Beat was rhythmic top 40, so most likely The Groove would be the station former Beat listeners would tune to. After all, Groove has a very similar playlist like The Beat had. Looking at the Radio-Locator maps for both stations, they both have similar signal coverage...

Well I noticed online that The Groove is going after The Beat listeners and they seem to be playing more Rhythmic currents since WBTS' flip, so something must be up. As for WHTA, their forte is Hip-Hop anyway so they'll benefit anyway. I haven't heard much out of WVEE but you can expect V-103 to also get a bigger boost. The only way Star 94 and Q100 will see a bump is when they will start actually playing all the hits.

According to yesterday's and this morning's log on yes.com does not look like the Groove has changed at all musically. Not sure what people are referring to when they say they have added more R&B since the Beat flip

who will more than likely take there audience?

Station Index for shared Adult Audience
WHTA-FM 504
WVEE-FM 380
WKLS-FM 262
WALR-FM 226
WSTR-FM 210
WAMJ-FM/WUMJ-FM 182
WWWQ-FM 166
WSB-FM 134
WNNX-FM 126
WSRV-FM 119

So based on this Hot listeners were 5x as likely to listen to the Beat. Looks like Hot has the best chance of gaining audience. Where is CJ?

Not to mention, Groove's website now has a banner saying "105.7 The Groove Welcome's The Listeners From 95.5 The Beat" with a request line mentioned. Guess they are targeting former Beat listeners now...

If they are targeting the Beat's listeners, why are they doing it on the Groove's own website? Shouldn't they be directing their promotional efforts towards reaching the Beat's listeners, not their current listeners?

Clear Channel would need to make major changes to Groove's playlist. Notice 105.7 The Groove stays away from the Hip-Hop songs that leans Rhythmic (ex. Nicki Minaj "Your Love", Kanye West "Power", DJ Khaled "All I Do Is Win).

Well, given the bump in currents and from that banner on their website, you can expect The Groove to continue to make more changes, which might include more street prescence and outdoor advertising from Clear Channel Outdoor. Even the station's on-air liners are welcoming former Beat listeners, so it must be happening.

As for playing Nicki Minaj, the new Kayne, and DJ Khaled, give it time. They'll play it soon.

Does the name Groove attract young listeners? Maybe a name change can be made. 105.7 Jamz maybe. Not sure what name can be used in Atlanta, GA. And as for Star and Q they need to add some rhythmic hits.

Well, changing from Groove to Jamz would take them from the 70's all the way up to the 90's. I suppose that's a step in the right direction.

Better yet, how about "Now!" Could work.

Considering CC has recently be naming their new CHRs "Radio Now", CC probably will rename The Groove to Radio Now (but I prefer just the simple Now moniker). I would've suggested "KISS FM" but 104.1 (owned by Cox) is using the Kiss moniker.

Why not just bring back the "WiLD" name from back ine the days when CC tried Rhythmic as Wild 96.7! WiLD 105.7 "ATL's Party Station" . The GROOVE name is here to stay more than likely folks.

Better yet, how WWVA pick up the "Beat" and use the "ATL's Party Station" slogan. After all, it worked for their sister station in Charlotte and they're a pop leaning Rhythmic, too.

Sorry to say but I will not be missing the beat at all, as I never listened to it anyway. Neither did I listen to WSB-AM.

Now, I will get a lot more from the new news and information when I'm scanning the radio dial.
They've taken a C- station and turned it into a B-.........which is probably a good thing.

Look out WABE, Cox is gunnin' for ya.

This is what I've been thinking all along... for even a few months now.
As much as I'm hopeful this whole situation may lead to something that actually makes sense happening in the Atl top 40 and rhythmic world, I'm still having my doubts based on all the things that have happened so far in the past. At least with The Groove being present during all this, there is some HOPE. I'll never get over the anti-genius idea to drop a rhythmic ac in ATL at the time they did, but... at least with all the things going on right now, there is a ray of hope and some feel of optimism present.
