Now The Flyers Are Going To 97.5

It was idiotic putting the Cubs/Phils game on 'IP over the beginning of the Flyers playoff game. Flyers really should have had the priority on that...

If the rumor is true, 'IP screwed the pooch on this.

GM would swap formats, but never sell 97.5. And they should put The Fanatic on 95.7...now that they have 76ers and Flyers, people in the 'burbs would be better served by a full non-d signal - and it would better compete against 94.1.

Plus, would Ben really take a hit moving to the 97.5 signal?

regular season baseball is going to get higher ratings than hockey on the radio 9 times out of 10. if moving the phils to 94.1 was what CBS had to do to keep the phils, then it was the move they had to make.

If a signal has problems in office buildings, that would hurt a music station more than a talk station.

If you have a station with a marginal signal, you need to put your car format on that station and keep your office formats on the signals that are better in offices.

"Several Flyers games will also be broadcast on legendary rock station 93.3 WMMR-FM".
I guess WMMR will be the alternate station when there are conflicts with the Sixers.

Wow. I'm surprised Greater Media would do that, and I'm even more surprised it's WMMR and not WMGK.

Ah, but 97.5 does OK in office buildings due to having raw wattage...95.7 does better in the 'burbs due to being non d and a higher antenna. Same reason why CBS put The Sports Hub on 98.5 rather than 104.1 in Boston - 104.1 was on the Pru downtown vs out in Needham at 128.

Either way, this will be interesting to watch over the next year to see how things shake out.

At the end of the day, everybody wanted to be on FM, and now it comes to pass. The only team that may have a conflict that would force them onto AM would be the Phillies if they're scheduled at the same time as the Eagles, That's only going to happen a few times a year, most likely at the tail end of the regular season. MLB playoff schedules can be adjusted so that the Phils and Eagles don't conflict. It's probably the best scenario for all involved, except for CBS, because now the Fanatic can be considered a legitimate competitor.

Kind of funny how annoyed the Flyers were at being on 610, which was the station they have been on for all these years in the first place. Now all of a sudden it's a backwater.

I guess it tells us what we need to know about the future of AM radio.

It's been said that the Phillies would go to WOGL when they conflict with the Eagles.

IMHO, 97.5's problem was that they didn't have any Philly pro teams on their air. That's all changed now! CBS' priorities in Philly have always been the Phillies and Eagles. :)

Not exactly - CBS chose 98.5 for sports as that signal covers Providence as well - 104.1 doesn't.

And 98.5 doesn't need to reach RI. There is already the former WEEI-FM now WVEI-FM on 103.7 which simulcasts WEEI. Providence had WEEI on FM before Boston did.

Probably Sixers on WPEN-FM and Flyers on WPEN-AM and WMMR. Sort of a shame not to have WMMR not rocking 24/7. I guess no worse than when the Sixers were on WYSP or WOGL when there were conflicts. Big question will the Flyers pre/post-game shows be on WMMR as well as 950 when there are conflicts with the Sixers on 97.5? I hope not. Just put those on 950.
