And you can thank KZPT for that as the Journal Communications outlet ditches Adult Top 40 for a Mainstream direction as "Z104.1--Modern Hit Music" today(February 2nd), putting them in competition with mainstream rival KRQQ and Rhythmic rival KOHT.

BTW their website is UC but here is their logo www.z1041.fm

I realize that you did say KOHT was rhythmic, so this point is rhetorical... but there are not THREE top-40 stations in Tucson, only two.

just because a lot of CHR product is urban does not make KOHT a top 40 station.

competing? yes. same? no.

Tuscon Still Only Has One CHR

Z-104.1 is a Modern AC - it sounds like the now defunt Z-104 Washington DC, or like the current sound of Spokane's 92.9 ZZU.

Try telling that to both All Access and Journal Communications. Come think of it I get the feeling that these so-called "Modern Hit Music" stations don't want to be called Modern ACs or Adult Top 40s. Can you say "WSTR(Star 94)"?

Trust me, they sound even way more Modern and Adult then even Star 94 Atlanta.

Here's what the new Z-104.1 played in the past hour:

Collective Soul "How do You Love"
Switchfoot "Meant To Live"
Stone Temple Pilots "Plush"
Howie Day "She Says
John Mayer "Bigger Then My Body"
Staind "It's Been A While"
Kelly Clarkson "Walk Away"
Barenaked Ladies "One week"
Hoobastank "The Reason"
Anna Nalick "In The Rough"
Live "Heaven"
Rob Thomas "Ever The Same"
The Cure "Friday I'm In Love"
weezer "Beverly Hills"
Green Day "Wake Me Up When..."

Here's What Tuscon's real CHR, 93.7 KRQ, played in that same hour:
Beyonce "Check On It"
Green Day "When I Come Around"
Gwen Stefani "Crash"
Fat Joe "Get It Poppin"
Fallout Boy "Dance Dance"
Ray J "One Wish"
Lifehouse "You And Me"
T-Pain "I'm Sprung"
Enrique Iglesias "Be with You"
All American Rejects "Dirty Little Secret"
Kelly Clarkson "Because of You"
Jules Santana "There It Go"

I rest my case Robert ;)

Yeah, I heard it. Seems to mix in KFMA, KRQQ, and Mountain, maybe an all-in-one station. But one question, HOW CAN YOU COMPARE IT TO HOT 983??? And you can add in KZZP 104.7, I can get it in nice and clear in north Tucson specifically the Marana area of course. So thats....4?

Re: Tuscon Still Only Has One CHR

Wow, Collective Soul, Stone Temple Pilots, BNL, Live, The Cure...all in one hour?

(YUCK)... Sounds like a 90s Modern AC station. I dont Totally hate this music, but its not my opinion of how a CHR should sound. Even WZPL in Indianapolis is Closer to a CHR than this.
