Now we know what you were talking about...

Arizona Nightly News.

So NBC wants their affiliates to develop a synergy with the main product. So what? If it bothers the staff at 12 that much, here are two suggestions:

1. Leave. If the name of the newscast is what determines your mood, get out.

2. Tell management to tell NBC where they can put thier ideas. Of course, if management does that, Arizona Nightly News will just find a new home, with the rest of the NBC programming, at Channel 3.

Hey, I didn't say these were great ideas.

But Arizona Nightly News is hardly NBC Nightly News at 6 (or NBC News at 6). Don't local affliates have the right to brand their own newscast? If KPNX were a O&O, I could see it.

I don't think 3TV wants 'em...what with the crappy ratings for NBC!

Arizona Nightly News?

Where did you hear that? KPNX just ran a "12 News" promo a minute ago and that name is still splashed all over the AZCentral web pages. If they were going to make a change they'd promote it to the hilt.

Why doesn't Gannett tell NBC to pound sand if they don't like it? They should be able to run their news department as they see fit. NBC needs Gannett as much as Gannett needs NBC. I just can't see them moving to KTVK.

Okay, for openers, Keith, I heard it, fasten your seat belt, on Channel 12. What, you think I just pull this stuff out of thin air?

They're not doing privatized newscasts that only I can see. I'm assuming that if you have a television and live in Phoenix, you too can be amazed at 6:00 p.m.

As for NBC leaving Channel 12, it was just a humorous way of pointing out that those who are offended by the change in the name of a newscast need a hobby, not to mention a serious upgrade in their sense of humor. Relax. You've got as good a chance of seeing NBC on Channel 3 as you do of seeing Marty Velasco-Hames act humble.

No, of course not. It's just that I heard a "12 News" promo right before I wrote that post at 3 PM.

I'm not doubting your word. If that's how I came across, I apologize. I didn't mean it that way.

You're right there.

Not sure if or how this appplies to the Phoenix situation, but fyi...

The NBC-owned station in Hartford just rebranded from "NBC-30 Connecticut News" to simply "NBC-30 News."

Well NBC-30 Connecticut News is quite a mouthful! Plus, Connecticut is not the easiest state to say quickly. Changing it to NBC-30 News probably gives them an extra minute of news time (smile)!
