Now what for us Oldies fans????

Hopefully 97.9 will start a few???? 80's are fine but I hated the 90's..

Journey isn't going to cut it. I already listened to them for 30-40 minutes and during that time it was all 80's and 90's. They only played two 80's songs I liked and your right about the 90's. The music of the 90's is what got me listening to Oldies and ever since then it's been my favorite format.

If Cumulus was smart they could have put AGH on 100.5.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that CBS will finally realize they could have better ratings with a Classic Hits format on 92.9. Trying to look at the bright side of things, at least we had AGH for 4 years as opposed to the two years we had Cool 105.7.

Doesn't this make us one of the only top 10 markets without Classic Hits/Oldies?

Technically, we still have a classic hits station. Who knows, maybe the river will change names and start playing MOTOWN. No one knows.

That will never happen in a million years! Cox couldn't wait to get rid of their oldies stations around the country so they could try to pass of The River & The Eagle stations as the "new" oldies format when in reality it's Classic Rock.

Sure, I liked them for about a week until I kept hearing the same songs 2-3 times a day.

I am just sick of people thinking oldies is a dead format, it is not. Dave would be smart to do it as well, this station is a waste of power. So is 100.5 TRG's need to go, and sick of Burt and his cast of idiots.

Below is a link for PPM's Top Performers. Notice how well Oldies/Classic Hits stations rate:

Notice in the article where it states "Classic hits and oldies also received a huge boost, up 17.7% from 8.9 to 10.5"

Well, Andy Rose and Michelle Wright on All News 106.7 is the best Cumulus Atlanta morning show. Period.

The way I understood it, Cumulus is going to have Journey 97.9 completely drop the 90s, concentrate exclusively on soft 70s/80s, and become the new place for "Atlanta's Greatest Hits"

The sound quality won't be like it was on 106.7, but I'm sure you'll get to hear all your favorite soft oldies/classics on Journey

I agree though that Cumulus should put AGH on 100.5, though, since the Classic Rock thing (competing with the River) obviously isn't working - 97.9 is still a very limited signal, and a lot of core oldies listeners live in towns which are further distances from ATL

I sent this link to BRENT:
http://www.iheart.com/live/4717/

This is iHeartRadio's Real Oldies Channel. Excellent.

Thanks for the link I'll have to check it out. Right now I'm listening to the True Oldies Channel.

Was supposed to leave for Ohio tomorrow to work in our NE Ohio office for about 6 months but I've decided to leave today so by this time tomorrow I'll be in Classic Hits heaven. So many Oldies stations there that I won't have enough AM/FM presets for them all so screw Cumulus, CC Atlanta and Cox and maybe by the time I'm back, CBS will have flipped 92.9 and shown Atlanta how the format should be done.

AMEN.....

I know, COME ON CBS!!!!!!!!!

"92 'ZGC", can't you just hear the jingles.

Randy AND Spiff- Mornings
Steve Craig- Middays
Steve McCoy and Alpha Trivette- Afternoons

Seems to me that Oldies is becoming more of a niche format as opposed to a dead one, but out of curiosity, don't these legacy formats evolve into a re-branded title of some sort while the next generation of that format takes on that previous title or a reasonable one-off branding?

WSB-HD2 is a very soft AC, mostly 60's/70's, every few hours a soft recurrent or 90's like Celine Dion, but lots of slow Motown, even a smooth jazz cut or two here and there. Very different than anything else in ATL radio, like the old Peach FM 95 circa 1988-1991 before Jacor sold out to Clear Channel when Vance Dillard was PD. Commercial free too. IF you are one of the five people with an HD radio.

Other than this, IHeartRadio is your choice. Hope you have unlimited data.

That just it, I don't want an HD radio, I don't think they are going to last. why don't they stream on the internet???

I got an HD Radio the last time we went through this when CC Flipped Cool 105.7 to Viva or whatever it was. At least CC put the Oldies on 94.9 HD-2 up until they changed from Lite to Bull which is more than I can say for Cumulus. Guess we now know that Cumulus cares less about it's listeners than Clear Channel. There's no reason whatsoever that Cumulus couldn't put AGH on 106.7 HD-2.

I've tried listening to WSB-FM 98.5 HD-2 and it puts me to sleep.

Classic Hits/Oldies-formatted stations are on a real hot streak, having shown growth for eight consecutive years according to Arbitron; removing sixties music and freshening the format with more eighties product, of which there is an abundance of, has done wonders in boosting the ratings for many such stations, including format legends such as KRTH/LA, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Like I said, time marches on. I think 60s pop on terrestrial radio is dead, like 50s golden oldies and 30/40s nostalgia before it. And early 70s AM gold isn't doing well, either.

I think we're going to have to get our 70s stuff in dribs and drabs, like disco on old-skool R&B stations and New Wave on AAA stations.
