NPR 2008 tech survey

Race fans here's the stats for options most desired by car owners..

AM/FM radio is still the one! "And yes AM radio is still a contender" "85% chose AM/FM radio"
But look out, Ipods & cell phones are in close second. "32% chose an iPod with an MP3 connector."
Satellite and other crap in the middle
And coming in dead last place, is I could of been somebody, the kid HD radio.. "7% chose HD Radio"
But look out on the heels of HD is a little nobody, wireless Internet. .6% chose wireless

In this reporters opinion, in the coming years wireless internet is the one to watch..

Cell phones, meanwhile, are becoming ubiquitous and are gateways to texting and other multi-media activities. The iPod is "a game changer" and is owned by more than half of public radio listeners.

The disinterest in HD Radio among Country listeners is similar. Check pages 53 and 54 of this Edison Research survey released at the recent Country Radio Seminar.

http://www.edisonresearch.com/Edison_CRB_Country_Study_2009.pdf

Awareness of HD Radio is actually DOWN from two years ago, in spite of the HD Alliance ad campaign which has been running ad nauseum on corporate radio. Nearly 1 in 3 "P1" listeners in the sample group said they never heard of it.

Of the 71 percent who are aware, only 2% said they're "very likely" to buy an HD receiver in the next 12 months, with 13% "somewhat" likely. But two thirds are not at all likely.

Yet 61% overall own an iPod or other portable MP3 player.

Holy Olbermann, Batman!! Let's get to the facts.

"And yes AM radio is still a contender"
Is quoted as if it was written in the article. BZZZT! Editiorialization from P-R. Olby would be proud. :)

32% for "iPod with an MP3 connector" is a close second to 85% for "AM/FM radio"? By chance are you a campaign manager for the green party? :) 85/32="Close" ? OK, I guess it kicks the heck out of "personal singer"

And then we come to HD radio equals 7% Wireless internet equals 6% ? ?

Surely you jest... *(And yes I'm calling you Shirley)

The incredibly destructive, defective, unneeded, unwanted, Science Fair project, titanic 2000 of broadcasting, HD radio rates a 7% when wireless internet gets a "6""? ? ?

Someone call Fred Sanford... I think it's the big one...

Clouseau - you're just WACKY! "Editorialization?"

That's why this board exists, my friend. For OPINION. Again: Radio-Info is not a news service. It's a "discussion board." You know, a place "to editorialize."

And while we're at it: help us out with something here, please:

Pray tell: what, exactly is a "fact?"

(And please don't recite the old "empirically provable hypothesis" definition. Because that leads you inexorably to: "provable with....WHAT?" "Why....with other FACTS, of course....")

Just a tad circular, n'est-ce pas? (Then again: I guess we could just say is a fact is a fact is a fact. Everybody knows one when they see one.)

Senor Roberto,

Certainly "I" am well aware this is an opinion board. However when someone quotes an article and writes...

AM/FM radio is still the one! "And yes AM radio is still a contender" "85% chose AM/FM radio"

I have to ask you, If -AM/FM radio is still the one!- is clearly the commentary and the quoted - "85% chose AM/FM radio" is from the article, wouldn't you agree the "quoted" - "And yes AM radio is still a contender" would actually "BE" a quote from the article?

My point was, That's "Olby-World".

By all means, folks, add your opinions. However, Ffel free to not put quotes around you comments when you are also quoting an article, though.

Otherwise, you make me WACKY!!!

I didn't take it that way when I read it.
