NPR CEO John Lansing to retire Dec 31st

Lansing, who is 66, will leave a few months before his contract would have expired.

The network has foundered under his 4 year tenure, with a sharp decline in podcast revenues, a significant layoff in spring of 2023, and recently churn at the executive level.
When I first read the title of this thread, before I even read your comments I was wondering if this was a happy departure or no. It seems there's been a lot of movement at the upper levels, and even my local NPR station which covers a good part of the state on a few frequencies and HD2 channels has had a fair amount of turnover and staff movement over the past few years especially. They've also been in a kind of downward cylce where reductions in donations forced them to make some programming changes and eliminate some local programming, which then led to discontent and even fewer donations and the cycle repeats.
