NPR coming to WLXV?

Rumor on the street from several reliable sources is that with Lehigh Carbon Community College trying to unload their radio station (WXLV), that PBS TV 39 has expressed interest in co-purchasing the station with another area college and splitting the program with about 12 hours belonging to WLVT (PBS 39) for all-day NPR programming and the other 12 hours going to the college. I guess the goal would be to go against WDIY with all NPR news/talk during the day since WDIY only does Morning Edition, Fresh Air, and All Things Considered during the day. The rumors stopped short of implying which area college PBS 39 was possibly interested in doing this deal with. Muhlenberg already has a station. Lehigh already has a station. Lafayette has a station but a very tiny signal that only covers Easton. Maybe this would be a good fit for them since WXLV's signal would take care of the western part of the Lehigh Valley? Cedar Crest I doubt would be interested. I'm trying to think of other area colleges. Kutztown University? They have a little basically on-line and closed circuit station but I doubt the school could afford this with their constant financial problems in the news.

It's interesting to note that PBS 39 has been actively after buying/taking over a station to go against WDIY for sometime after WDIY fought off a takeover attempt by them about 5 years ago. I think I heard they tried to take over WMUH, for example, but they fought that off. So apparently PBS 39 is actively at it again. Also interesting to think about is would LCCC be interested in selling their station to an outfit who wants to cut a co-ownership deal with another competing college? Not to mention I think WXLV was one of the stations that PBS 39 tried to overtake back in the day but turned them down. That's when WXLV began that short-lived LMA with WDIY.

Wow, who says non-profit radio happenings aren't interesting.
