This is strange. The head of the news department becomes the guy who takes listener complaints, often about news stories and news coverage. Can he be objective? Judging by reactions of radio news people on this board, journalists often don't deal well with criticism. Is this guy able to shut off the part of his brain that worked in news?
The news VPs job has been filled by an associate on a temporary basis. This has started a chain of serial vacancies as people move up a notch - temporarily - to cover for the boss, who moves up a notch .... But they are going outside to look for a permanent replacement. Unless there is some problem, there is something to be said for promoting from within. And why pay money for a consultant? Is this guy supposed to know their needs better than they do? But public radio has always been addicted to consultants.
Marimow Resigns As NPR VP, Takes Ombudsman's Role
NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO VP for News (and former BALTIMORE SUN Publisher and Pulitzer Prize-winning PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER reporter) BILL MARIMOW has resigned and will take the position of NPR's Ombudsman. The network is using SUCHERMAN CONSULTING GROUP to search for MARIMOW's successor as VP.
