NPR To Celebrate May 3 50th Anniversary With Programming Specials

It's a great achievement. They've managed to do this because they don't have to cater to advertisers. That was the idea. In the 60s, too many programming decisions were being made because of advertising, not because of listeners. The purpose of NPR was to see if you could do better radio if you programmed directly to the people.
