Right, well that's the beauty contest and thanks, but what about the numbers that count?

How does WFBS rank in ratings?

WFBS doesn't even show up in the county it's licensed to!

This is a case where you do not *rate* the station by arbitron, but by results for the advertisers. After all, its all about the money. Kevin's success should be measured by getting his local advertisers, those who do not subscribe to arbitron, to get their message across - whether its via local sports, news or the obits. Its part of serving the community. So, instead of bullying him to tell you who is listening, consider how local radio measures its success differently.

Arbitron is totally ineffective at measuring radio listening and reporting it for the radio stations licensed to Columbia County. Don't worry...when I screw up, the phones ring, and they're there. Also ringing is the cash register at businesses who invest in WFBS to reach Berwick adults 50+. If you're in Columbia County, you're either dead last or you don't show up in Arbitron.

WKAB penetrates Luzerne County better than any Columbia County station, and is a major player in Hazleton.

WFYY-FM, in my opinion, has the greatest momentum, but is shown dramatically trailing WKAB in Arbitron. The opposite is true in our area and Arbitron isnt tracking it correctly.

WHLM's showing is probably ascription, as half of everybody who mentions 106.5 still calls them WHLM.

WFBS doesnt cover enough of the DMA to be a numbers player. We survive on the merits of who and what we are, and how we deliver customers and prospects to our customers.

I'm sorry...what was the question?

The post below withstanding, WFBS routinely meets the 1% in tab criteria set forth by Arbitron, in Columbia County. Look it up.

The format on the station is one, if you are my age, 51, is easy
to take. The music as well as the flow is very good. I try to
listen on the web but if I were a Berwickian, I'd be listening
every day which would smash the cume if the demo was old, lame,
white guys who still try to imitate the dance steps of the
Temptations.

This has to be a testament to the consistency of this format,
the level of comfort the air personhalities give their listeners
(there is virtually little turnover with the jocks as well as
the sales people.) This ship has been steered very well
since l997 when the team of Loftus, Durkin and Paparelli
took over. Rock 107 continues to be an institution in
local radio and these numbers bear that out. Very rarely
will they go out of the top 4 in this important demo.

David hit the nail on the head. 107 is part of the local culture. I don't think the word "great" will ever be used to describe the creativity here, but it has become the classic rock brand in NEPA.

What about wsbg coing in 11th in the market?

NO you don't. I was looking at the TapScan when I wrote it. You're not just a statistical zero, you're not even listed. It is if you don't exist.

WFBS 1280 AM in Berwick is a fine station.

Kevin Fennessy should be working in a much bigger market; but, has chosen to take the road that most successful radio people have went... to ownership.

WFBS has a wide selection of music that is played and does not repeat the same songs within 24 hours.

Along with having Berwick Bulldog Football, NASCAR, ABC News, Paul Harvey, and most of all a certified meteorologist (Tom Hauft) working for the station; I don't anybody at WHLM, WKAB or even WFYY can say that they have excellent programming lined up in Columbia County, PA.

NO. I don't work for WFBS; but, I sure wish that I could and be a part of a station that has a lot going for it. If WFBS had a bigger signal pumping into the Susquehanna Valley like some of the conglomerate stations in Scranton and Wilkes Barre; you probably would see major numbers each book.

Just remember one thing; "IF YOU LIVE BY THE BOOK, YOU WILL DIE BY THE BOOK!"

Ratings aren't everything; but, serving your community of license with what is needed and expected is another.

Kevin keep up the great job!

AMEN a thousand times over to this post. This station is a true
gem. And Fennessey is a quality broadcaster who could be a success
in any other business. But the airwave addiction took hold of the poor
kid and at this stage of his life, there's nothing we can do for him.
Except lend a supportive hand or ear. And for those in sales, a
little targeted buy once in a while wouldn't hurt either.
