Numbers

Those unmentionable numbers were released today. Thoughts??? Lite is out, Cat Country is in, EEI got the Red Sox bump that was anticipated. Any other suprises???

WEEI-FM the number one talk station in Providence. WPRO and WHJJ don't even come close. We all saw that comming.I thought it would be the summer book the earliest at least. Expect bragging about it very soon.

I'm shocked at WCTK being at the top. Did not think Country was that popular in these parts. I know it's popular but danm. Very impresive!

B101, expect another rollout of 80's soon. Maybe some Micheal Jackson "Thriller" hit's and Cyndi Lauper and "Girl's".

I thought WHJJ would have better numbers since dumping Hot Head America.

It's only 12 plus but still I've always thought if you're doing well overall you're probably doing well in your target demo. I don't know if the opposite is true though. Some lower rated stations can still be on target with their audience. HJY keeps slipping but they still do well with the audience they're after. As far as country it's a format people migrate to in this area because they lose touch with or get turned off to others. I wonder what Cat's demographics are? I'd like to say they have a format monopoly but then I know they share with others formats. Might be with the average diaryholder not being that accurate they're just more loyal to the country station.

For those of you in Rio Linda ... here's everyone who's checking in Providence style ...

WCTK-FM up slightly ...
WWLI-FM down BIG TIME
WWBB-FM up significantly
WPRO-FM up significantly
WHJY-FM continuing the downward trend

WSNE-FM down slightly ...
WWKX-FM up ... but not much ...
WBRU-FM steady
WHJJ-AM up ever so slightly ...
WPLM-FM down a bit ...
WKKB-FM about the same
WCIB-FM about the same

Now you guys can analyse

So the big question is!!!!!!!!
WHO NUMBERS WERE BETTER,,,,,, MATT ALLEN or DAVE BARBER???? Matts run vs Barbers run.
ARLENE VIOLET,,,,,or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, DAN YORKE?????????????

Up significantly WSAR??
a 0. something to a 0. something is up SIGNIFICANTLY?
That station is an ongoing mess.
I see John Depetro total numbers are good.
Howie Barte looks weak.
Helen Glover , I expected better.
Has anyone noticed Whjj has had a very weak signal for months now?
Effecting numbers??
WEEI looks great, what about Coach??
WBZ weak since the death of AM great Professor David Burdnoy.
I worked with David, before he was ill. The Steven Hawkins of talk radio.

Speaking of Cat Country

Sorry but I have to add this about Cat Country's great success.
Hee Haw is back on the air......
what a great show. Now I'm going to brush my tooth.

As for Violet/Yorke, Yorke wins hands down.
Why did you expect more from Glover/Bart? It's not like they're professional broadcasters.
Dave Barber came in the middle of the book, so you can't tell who's impacting the book, duh.

I don't really know the market very well so this was just a raw look at the 12+ numbers themselves,
but a station that goes from a .4 in last spring to a .9 a year later (WSAR?) has doubled. Is that not significant? Isn't that station in New Bedford anyway so who cares? Comes within .1 of WBZ, but hey, it's a Boston station. The only thing that is interesting about it is that it seems to make inroads in the bigger market (Providence) and against the other New Bedford station (WBSM?). What little I know about the Providence market is HUGE compared to the absolutely nothing I know about the New Bedford market.

The talk stuff is boring. Most interesting to me is the fact that WHJY is down big time continuing downward. Maybe the station needs a refresh?

Not hobby,
You can't post exact numbers.
Hope you don't get deleted.
Wsar , # I saw .6 to .9 . STILL A 0!!
Very poorly, and no talent.
Barfers internals, not good.
Wonder what Friad is thinking? So nice to see him recently.. ::)

I really miss Brudnoy. Very bright, very erudite, able to speak intelligently on just about any and every topic you put in front of him. He was such a welcome relief from the pompous bloviating that talk radio has devolved into.

David never raised his voice, was always engaging. It was said his I.Q. was over 170.
The only person on all of Talk radio who may come close , smarts wise, is Savage.
David was smarter and a much better host.
David always made you welcome and he was gutsy.
I could write about him for hours! :(

Alfie ... what are you an ex-employee of the place or something?
All I can see is 12+. So take a look at the trend for the little station over the past year.
The trend in Winter and Spring is up. Look over since last spring for cripes sake.
Spring 05 to Spring 06 is double the number, is it not?
And who even gives a crap about a station that's not even in the Providence market?
Did someone steal your headphones while you were working there?

I never actually listened to David's show that often because my shift and his show were overlapping for many years, but when I did catch it, sounded good to me. I'm sure it was head and shoulders above the crap that's up in Boston now. And Providence does even have live talk and night, just the canned syndicated BS.

I used to bloviate on the air until I stopped going to the NY System on the way in. Oh God, I'm sounding like Robby Bridges. ;)

Anyway, on the HJY thing I'm sure they're doing well with men but then they're the only music station that targets men specifically. They'll always do well with men. I think they may be the kind of station people eventually grow out of. Do you come for Van Halen & tolerate System Of A Down or vice versa? One of their main strengths is not to change things so I can't see them doing it now. Down the line is another matter, but with most peoples' passion for radio being limited to the passion to keep their jobs another few months I don't see anyone below the corporate level worrying about the long-term. They're a good station with personalities that have never been afraid to editorialize on the air & have an actual image & personality they've never wavered from. I still tune in but how long I stay depends on what's on at any given moment. Then I brush my tooth & go back to WCTK.

I also have to wonder how many HJY listeners are migrating over to B101 & if that exodus isn't part of some master plan.

It's probably a natural progression. HJY's core audience from the 80's doesn't really care about System of a Down; the twenty-somethings who listen to them now probably don't care about Lynyrd Skynyrd or Foreigner.

It's akin to what happened at BCN in the early 90s when Laquidara and Carter Allen were moved over to WZLX as BCN attempted to reach more 18-34s.

WSAR gets a bad wrap. They are are so far out of Providence that most people don't even bother. They are also stuck way at the end of the dial on the AM Band. So the fact that they've doubled their numbers in Providence is amazing. It's anybody's guess weather the trend will continue. Perhaps it's just a fluke. Things happen. We'll have to wait and see what the next book looks like.

Skynet, wsar went from a .6 to a .9. It's the general numbers. The old board used to post all the garbage
from the owners to the interns. It's not a happy place and all they talk about is LNG.
I think B 101 is making strides with the on air changes of the last several months.
I would expect B 101 to do even better, next book.
Does anyone know how Rush (PRO) faired against Bart (HJJ)?
Savage had huge numbers in NY . Will that be the same for HJJ , in a few months?

I used to work at WSAR back in the late 80's when it was music and also as they transitioned to talk. When I was hired I asked the Program Director what the ratings were like. He responded that they didn't really pay much attention to ratings around there. I guess there was a reason for that.

You are correct though. Any way you look at it it's still under a one share. But Keri who is the Program Director over there mentioned that it's almost a one share in the Providence books! So it may be a little more impressive if you take into consideration that WSAR is not even a Providence station. It's a small AM station 20 miles away. Does this impress anyone else like it impresses her? What are the thoughts of everyone else about that fact?
