Numbers....

Wow. You guys are a trip! BTW, have you ever noticed that stadium at the corner of Porter & Park? :)

Gotta read a little more. Hell, even on this board there have been a bunch of discussions about how WPSU has been the REAL #1 in Arbitron's State College surveys for years and years. Here's the deal. If you ever see another Maximizer in your life, hit the "Stations" button and choose "All" instead of "In The Book." It'll give you the numbers for "all" the stations, including WPSU. Usually, they'll be the one on the top.

Or ask around a little more. One of you runs a business, don't you? Call WPSU and tell them you'd like to talk to somebody about running "underwriting" on the FM. They'll send a salesperson out and they'll show you their ratings. Usually, it'll be a bunch of number ones.

Who knows where they're ranked this time? It'll leak out, sooner or later. But put ten bucks on #1, just to be safe.
With all respect, I do buy adversiting and I'd never waste a dime of my companies money on "underwriting" WPSU, cause my clientelle is not listening to it. its that simple. No one is denying that WPSU may indeed have a following but the fact is, I don't care. They do not compete on a level playing field with the commercial radio stations. its a whole different animal. That'd be like saying that NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox should quake in their boots over Public Television. It has a following and a very loyal base but I have to say truthfully, I have not turned on Public TV in my house for a long time either. I don't lock the dial on my own station, I surf around but WPSU just has no appeal to me at all nor to my typical clients.

Actually the few times I have bought radio, my clients have found me through those 2 CHR's that everyone keeps saying are insignifigant. Guess as long as the advertisers are happy, the ratings don't mean much anyway huh???

Ahh...but how many people are honestly listening? Thats the question. I can truthfully say in the 14 years I have lived in State College, I have never had it on once. I have listened to the Student Station WKPS perhaps a half dozen times and that too most regular folk don't even realize exists.

So we should lump your listening habits in with the majority of the population and make your listening habits the 'mean' for everyone else that have lived here over the past 10 years? Good bye Arbitron, we now have Hiltron. I've never had your station on once, or the G since it switched to CHR, or TLR, so since I haven't listened to those stations they have no listeners? And your comment about most regular folk don't realize WKPS exists, how do they know your station exists? Or BLF, or TLR, I guess you are the only one that surfs the dial, most 'regular' people don't know what that button does in their vehicle (remember the old chr liner from the 80's 'lock it in and ripoff the knob"..maybe they've done that as well)...and most 'regulars' in a college educated town don't know there are frequencies below what? 94.5? 93.7?

Well once you get below 92.1 all you have is religion...and seriously how many god stations does Happy Valley need? We have TLR, there is something either below or above TLR as I have no idea what number they are, and then whatever is at 101.5 and then K-Love? Did I miss any?

As for PSU I am sure there are a lot of listners that they share with other stations as well can we all agree with that?

[/quote]Never said that my personal listening habits mirror that of the rest of society. I probably listen far more intently than the average "joe" as I am a radio guy and as such, I like to pick apart every little thing I hear even on my own station. What I said was that I honestly don't think that WPSU and the "others" are vying for the same audience. WPSU has a very loyal audience I am sure, but the types of well educated folk who frequent programming of that sort, sure are not going to be in my "core" audience. Anyway, once again seems like people are just taking themselves far too serious. Like I said, its radio...not brain surgery
