Did anyone see the article about KAGM parting ways with Mark and Dianne --
http://www.abqtrib.com/albq/bu_local/article/0,2565,ALBQ_19838_4435874,00.html

I question the journalistic skills of the guy who wrote it.

Here's why: the lead line is "Two of talk radio's most popular voices are off the air."

I don't know what alternate universe that he is living in but Mark and Dianne were NEVER popular talk radio voices. They were UNPOPULAR radio voices. They were part of the reason that KAGM has consistently been one of the lowest rated stations in the city.

The article also says, "Logan said the decision to pull the show also had nothing to do with ratings or listenership."

Perhaps Logan also has a bridge in Brooklyn that he wishes to sell to the Tribune writer.

The article goes on to say, "Logan said Anderson was given opportunities within KAGM, and whether she stays with the station (106.3 FM) is up to her. Mathis was not offered another position at the station."

There ain't no way that I can see Anderson coming back after they gave the ax to her husband. That would just be too humiliating. What do you think that the "opportunities within KAGM" that were offered to her? Did they say "you can read the news during Larry's show"?

The article also says, "Popular producer Jessica Owens - who listeners heard disagree and debate with Mathis daily - was 'an integral part of tempering Mark along the way,' Logan said, and is now working Ahrens' show."

Good for Jessica that she keeps a job, but "Popular producer"? If everyone associated with the Mark and Dianne show was so amazingly popular they would have had ratings and they wouldn't have axed the show.

I question their skills too, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that the writer, Tamara N. Shope, is not a guy. Never met a guy named Tamara. Besides that, a good analysis.

Here's a KAGM flashback from the now deleted Mark Mathis bio that was on kagm.com:

"Mark joined KAGM in July, 2005 when General Manager Scott Hutton had an epiphany: create New Mexico’s first husband and wife talk radio team. Hutton believed that combining Mark’s provocative and intellectual demeanor with the graceful presence of the most beloved and credible female broadcaster in state history would produce some of the most innovative, surprising and entertaining radio in the country. Hutton was right."

It was funny then, it is even funnier now.

Sounds like someone is trying to create a legend in their
own mind.

This "legend" is responsible for the cancellation of his wife's talk show. Mark is so high on himself, he needs to return to earth!

When you see an article that begins with "Two of talk radio's most popular voices are off the air" what are the first names that pop into your head?

You might think Howard Stern and Robin Quivers, or Opie and Anthony, maybe Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, perhaps Bob & Tom, or Don & Mike, or Dr. Laura & Michael Savage, or Bill O'Reilly and Larry King, or Tom Leykis and Kim Kommando, or Mancow and Art Bell.

At least in any of those instances the two people mentioned have some modicum of popularity.

To start an article about the cancellation of the Mark & Dianne show with "Two of talk radio's most popular voices are off the air" is just a lie. No Pulitzer Prize is going to be handed out for that journalistic gem.

Dianne Anderson's show was so unpopular and so unthreatening to the competition that TJ Trout from 94Rock had her come in and do news on his show and let her plug KAGM all she wanted. When the competition lets you do that it is a good sign that you are dead in the water.

Have they no editors at the Albuquerque Tribune? Did Dianne slip them some of Mark Mathis' media Kool-Aid? A lame article about a lame show on a lame station in a lame paper. That's Albuqeurque for you. We should demand better quality from our local media.

If Dianne were by herself that show might have been good as a niche women's show ala radio Oprah or some wierd form of Dr. Laura. When Mr. Anderson started with the political talk Mrs. Anderson and her producer were lost. So there was mass confusion.
