Nw Charleston Move-In and FM Shuffle

From what I understand, Charlreston ISN'T gaining another rock station, because 96.1 will be a Myrtle Beach station (WKZQ), and Charleston will not be able to tune in because of 95.9. If anything, Myrtle Beach will gain another rock station because 101.7 will have a monster signal covering the entire eastern SC half.

By reading what it says in R&R. Apex will now own a station in Myrtle Beach with this deal and Next Media will then own a station in Charleston, SC. Correct? If thats the case hopefully Apex would buy some other station in the Myrtle Beach market.

The R & R blurb was heavily edited and condensed.

The substance of the transaction is that WAVF Hanahan will moved to the tower where it already has a CP on 96.1. With the move, WAVF will change frequencies to 101.7.

WKZQ will also move south of Myrtle Beach. It will downgrade and change frequencies to 96.1.

The frequency swap will allow WWBD to move in to Isle of Palms.

Apex will own 101.7 Charleston and 95.9 Isle of Palms. Nextmedia will own 96.1 in the Grand Strand.

Remember, under the present rules, a Major Change must be filed within a window. A minor change can be done at any time unless there is a freeze. The transaction which was ordinarily be a major change was structured as a minor change of City of License, instead in order to get it done quickly.

So whats going to happen with Magic 101.7 which is owned by Citadel? As it says I guess Magic will move to 107.3 and Cat Country 107.5 will move away from the Charleston market.

And with 96.1 their is a sports station on that in Conway. It part of Cumulus ESPN The Team stations. Hope more can be done in Myrtle Beach.

Magic has already been approved to move to 107.3 commencing with the operation of 107.5 at Eastover.

I am not familiar with Conway. The KZQ move met all the spacing requirements.

Yeah that's what I am wondering, I am assuming they are trying to hurry this up. I wonder if the tower is being built in Columbia yet

Well from what I know, Citadel doesn't own MAGIC 101.7(urban ac) anymore. The Last Bastion Station (who are they) is the new owners. Question is, will the new owners spend money into moving the Urban AC format along with staff, logos, etc to display "MAGIC 107.3" or a format change???

Basically, after all is done.....

1). 96 WAVE >>> 101.7 WAVE?

2). MAGIC 101.7 >>> MAGIC 107.3?

3). What new format will Apex spin on the 95.9 station?

It still is CC. Th107.5 just has to throw a city-grade over the COL, which is is predicted to do. WWDM's tower is not in Sumter. There's the main one in Wedgefield and backup (aux) one on Screaming Eagle Road.

I knew about DM's on Screaming Eagle just not Harolds... By the time my 2008 visit comes around 107.5 should be active and on the air which will be interesting. My gut instict tells me it won't be music, but a simualcast of WISW to give it better nighttime coverage... A good Active Rocker would be nice, but Citadel wants to make money... CC1

The main WWDM tx site is just east of US 601 in Richland Co. Many years ago they broadcast from a site south of Wedgefield, but I thought that had been taken down. The tower on Screaming Eagle (which actually is not too far from the BIG DM) is most likely WLTX-TV.

I was clumsily referring to WWDM's two sites as an example. Sorry for the confusion.

I hadn't realized that one of the sites had moved since the time that I had worked there. Back in the day, we always referred to the main as Wedgefield and the Aux as Screaming Eagle.

The only station at or near that dial postion in the Myrtle Beach area is a translator for a Christian station. And it's not exactly at 96.1.

WJXY has a translator in Conway on 96.1. Because Conway is in the protected contour of the new WKZQ, it will have to sign off. WQSD has a translator (it appears to be on the same tower as the new WKZQ) on 96.3. I don't know if either are really needed anyway, so they'll probably sign 'em off and not bother to apply for a new frequency.

Also to point out. I forgot to say this. Classic Hits The Sound 107.1 also broadcasts on 96.3 FM.
They still do this? I started to mention that and I didn't remember whether it was true last year. I also couldn't think what the station is called now.
