NWA radio personality fired for...

...wearing a Florida Gators hat at a Bobby Petrino news conference

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas radio personality announced that she was fired Monday, two days after wearing a Florida Gators hat to an Arkansas Hogs news conference.

Renee Gork announced on Twitter that she had been fired by KAKS, a northwest Arkansas radio station that calls itself Hog Sports Radio. Gork had worn a Gator hat Saturday to a news conference with Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino.

Petrino, whose team lost to the Gators last season 23-20 at Florida, commented on Gork's hat after answering a question she asked. "And that will be the last question I answer with that hat on," Petrino said.

Gork, a Florida graduate, said she grabbed the hat without thinking Saturday because it was raining outside. She also said she sent a letter of apology to the university and Petrino.

Gotta love right-to-work states, huh? I mean, there's no greater incompetence one could express by wearing a hat with the wrong SEC team on it.

Well, looks like "The Sports Hog" is getting some exposure now. I will say the morning show is better than the 2 Hillbillies that are on "The Fan" in the morning. Sounds like some thing from the backwoods.

Both the GM of "The Hog" and Renee were on the nationally syndicated Dan Patrick Show this morning. The GM must be loving all this attention. As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Patrino, the Sports Hog and their gm have become poster children for "losers". If you can't beat 'em...be an idiot. Go Gators. Sure glad she didn't grab an LSU cap....I'd have a rough time saying Go Tigers. After they come to their senses and give the Gator Girl her job back, she should tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Let's try to focus here--she didn't lose her job for wearing the Florida hat. She lost her job because she no longer had access to the Razorbacks and that was why she was hired. If you become a 'beat reporter' for any college team, don't wear a cap or apparel for an opponent to a press conference. That would seem to be common sense. Also, notice that Ms. Gork says that she thought Coach Petrino was joking at first. If you see the video, look at the man's face--he ain't playing.

I was willing to give Renee the benefit and believe that she made a mistake when wearing a Florida cap. But I heard that the day before, she tweeted that she wish she was at a Gators practice. If that is true, there's just some things you don't say out loud, whether it's verbally, in print or on social media like Twitter and Facebook.

I guess getting fired will free her up to look for a job at a Gators radio station. The whole story about her "just grabbing any ol' hat" is a bunch of BS if you ask me. She probably thought it would be funny, but it sure back-fired. It was simply un-professional and she got what she deserved.

If a Coca-Cola driver showed up to work with a Pepsi shirt on, you can bet he would be shown the door.

Because if there's anybody who's word is bond, it's Bobby Petrino's. :D

HUH? That you, apparently, don't like Bobby Petrino really isn't relevant to this story. I, frankly, like the fact that it ticked him off that a reporter demonstrated a lack of respect for his program.

As for the look on his face, that's the way he always looks. I've never seen anyone with a more deadpan expression. He even looks like that when he's participating in Hog cheers.

Again, I fail to see the relevance to this string. The story is about a reporter who used poor judgment and lost her job as a result. It's not a string about Bobby Petrino or the Razorbacks.

And, frankly, I hope people don't always base their opinions of me on my past. There are more than enough skeletons in my own closet without peering into anyone else's. Bobby Petrino is a football coach, a job for which almost everyone is hired to be fired. His past is of no concern to me and, unless it reflects on the U of A (in my opinion, it doesn't), isn't relevant now.

You're apparently unfamiliar with his background.

Let's see: J Frank Broyles walked out on the University of Missouri after one season; Lou Holtz fled from NYC and the Jets before the season was over and the Golden Boy himself, Houston Dale Nutt, ran from Idaho when he went 4-7 in his one season as their coach. All three left jobs to become the head coach at the UofA, so exactly what is your point about Bobby Petrino?

"So? Other people did it too!" :D

Yeah, that'll make Petrino look better. Why don't you ask Arthur Blank what he thinks about him?

If I cared what Arthur Blank thinks of Petrino, I would. But, clearly, it just doesn't matter to me. I'll base my opinions on what happens instead of just reading (or listening or watching) someone else's.

You talked about the fired reporter not having any respect for Petrino's program--its laughable because Bobby Petrino has shown a notable lack of respect for others on several occasions. MOST notably with how he left the Atlanta Falcons.

Defend him all you want as anonymous internet fanboy--just know he'd never do the same for you.

wow. pretty smooth how this string was shifted from talking about renee and her hat to a bobby petrino bashing.

just goes to show that the media can spin things anyway it wants. and to think i've been itching to get back in lately. lol.

i know the guys who run this station. there were ALOT of factors that played into her being fired...the hat was the "last straw" so to speak. as one poster said...when she lost access to the hogs...she lost the ability to do her job.

I wonder why the station does not do better in the raitings. The sound good with solid programming. For local mornings, I think Derrick Ruskin and Tommy Craft sound better in the morning than the alternative on "The Fan". Mike and Mike are great for national sprots. Afternoons are a toss up , because all the afternoon shows are good on all 3 sports stations. As far as "The Hog" goes, I think they need more promotion for the 99.5 frequency. I am not sure how many people know that they are there with a better signal, and the fact they can be heard at night.
