I see you target NOW.

This has been mentioned before, NOW had to build an audience from scratch. the numbers are rising.

mar>Apr>May

1.4>1.5>1.8

CUME (VERY interesting)

1.6M>2.1M>2.5M

If it keeps the same rate it will DOUBLED in a 4 month period.

Don't Count NOW out just yet

Yes, their cume has grown, but they seem to have a *very* low TSL. TSL does tend to be lower for CHR formats, but Now must be even lower than the norm.

The fact that they've been on for a few months now (with fairly heavy promotions) without managing to break into the 2's yet or in the top 10 in their own target demo is not encouraging at all. Sure, things may improve for now, but it seems to be that it's CBS Radio that has some improvements to make first. CBS Radio definitely is putting more effort and attention into Amp Radio in LA than 92.3 Now.

Gee, I wonder why WXRK's TSL is low. Perhaps it's because they repeat songs very often. Or that annoying DJ at night makes people hit another preset button. I can't listen to Now FM for more than an hour at a time.

If TSL is below normal that means people may only be dwitching Now when Z or KTU go to commercial break. How do you make money on a station that serves as a backup?

Before Pulse 87's signal improvement in central NJ, I used to switch between Now and Z100, with Now as my primary station because it speeds up the music and I like that. After June 12, I haven't listened to Now or Z as much, since I just keep 87.7 on, even through the short and exciting commercial breaks on Pulse 87 (yes, it's actually interesting to listen to the commercials on Pulse 87).
Now FM is ditching commercials on Mondays, so hopefully that will improve TSL somewhat. Ditch the ultra-power rotation of the same 5 songs, and you might improve TSL more.

I still bump back and forth between Z and KTU, I flip to Pulse every now and again, I like all the remixes, but some of the newer dance songs just make me reach for the dial... Flanders, Guru Josh Project, Anna Grace... they just make me feel like I should be doing the hyper bunny bouncing like back in the 90's... their signal is improved, but still doesn't penetrate buildings very well... I can't get them in the office or my apt tower on the westside. As for NOW, the tight rotation chased me away a long time ago, and I haven't been back.

Me too, but the tight rotation's fixable. If CBS has the commitment to stay with it and make tweaks as needed, and they are needed, I wouldn't count them out. But those are some big ifs.
