NY TIMES - Keith Olbermann Will Return To ESPN

Olbermann's seething hatred for all things Bristol will be in full effect.
Much like KO's stunt with Current TV he will last 3 months... tops.

The man is unemployable and television poison.
 
Well technically he's not gonna work from Bristol. But this goes beyond hell freezes over territory. Are they that scared of Fox Sports 1?

Olbermann is a proven draw, and a lot of those political-minded fans also happened to be sports fans. Once ESPN got past any such real requirement of having shows originate from their or explicitly Disney affiliated studios (Pardon The Interruption, Around The Horn, and Highly Questionable based in Washington D.C. and Miami, respectively)...THAT is what makes this worth trying one more time.

Keith will probably get to abuse work with his own trusted production crew, and the corporate pressure to axe the show will only come from it being a ratings/revenue dud.
 
The man has actual mental problems and I mean that kindly. He certainly does have talent but he has some kind of psychological issue that he needs to get treated. His ego is so huge it's abnormal and his ability to be in the spotlight and have money is clearly not helping his mental health.

He's one of those people that would be far better off if he was poor and had nothing to feed his problems. Hopefully he'll get it under control.
 
Recall that when Keith arrived at MSNBC, they were within striking distance of Fox News. He lead the net down the liberal/accusatory/slander and defamation trail, to the point where his left leaning clones have six of the bottom seven ranked shows on cable news.

So he wont discuss politics? Big deal. He ll be able to whine about gun control referring to Aaron Hernandez and other thug athletes, and I'm sure an assortment of other social issues that involve athletes.

Truthfully, ESPN doesnt need him to go against Fox Sports 1.
 
Apparently the Disney organization wants to infest ESPN with the blatant, moronic left-wing bias that pervades their ABC News division. Old Walt, who so famously hated socialism so much that he refused to let Nikita the K into Disneyland during the height of the Cold War, must be spinning in his grave. Regarding Big O, obnoxious only begins to describe this guy... but to paraphrase Warren Zevon, his hair is perfect and I'd like to meet his tailor. Owooooh!
 
Krushchev was scheduled, with Walt Disney's blessing and invitation, to visit Disneyland in 1959. It was called off due to security concerns. The Cold War and the Cuban issues were in full gear at that time.

Interesting that later on, in 1975, former sworn US enemy Hirohito was warmly welcomed into the Magic Kingdom without incident. Pearl Harbor, and the invasion of the Phillipines, among many other things, would not have happened without his approval.

I didn't know KO was hired to bring leftist politics into ESPN. I always though it was a place to escape politics.

I also didn't know that ABC News was leftist. Could it be because when the politics of your choice makes an error, and it's reported objectively, that you don't like it because it's not sugar-coated?

Remember, according to the White House at the time, Watergate was just a third-rate burglary.
 
Yes, they are that scared of Fox Sports 1. ESPN has been in a ratings nosedive this summer. They cut staff to meet some financial goal but saw ratings dive almost immediately. They know that a well-funded competitor at just the right time could do some serious damage. The good news for ESPN is that football season is about to start and they have NFL games that will get more than 10 million viewers each week. FS1 can't claim that.
 
I don't know that putting a guy who has name recognition, a solid sports history, and a following on ESPN 2 for a late night show necessarily means they are "that" afraid of Fox Sports 1. I think an opportunity presented itself for Keith or ESPN, the parameters were set, and they're giving it a shot with counter-programming for those who don't want to watch SportsCenter at 11, but still want a dose of something sports-oriented. I think it's a good idea, although I probably won't be a frequent viewer.

Their ratings dive every summer after basketball season ends. Is the dip more pronounced now than usual?

I didn't note the cuts as having impacted the on air product, at least not yet.

I think the decision to put Olbermann on ESPN2 in a less prominent time slot is hedging by ESPN to gauge exactly how loose of a cannon Olbermann will be.
 
Compared to FOX NEWS, I consider ABC & CNN to be Not-Far-Enough-To-The-Right biased. If the latter two are both Left-Wing to you, then you must a loyal viewer of the former one & consider whatever that channel says to be the Almighty Holy Gospel Word ::)

Back on topic, I agree with those who believe Keith Olbermann's newest ESPN stint will last about as long as Rush Limbaugh's one & only (Though Keith would have a GREAT future on Talk Radio if he'd just give it a try)

The ratings dive in question was year-to-year from April-June. They did have some valid points, specifically comparing the ratings of the 2012 Eastern Conference finals (7 games, Miami and Boston are draws) to the 2013 Western Conference finals (3 games on ESPN, 1 on ABC, San Antonio and Memphis aren't draws). But even not counting that, there was a noticeable drop:

Fox Sports 1 is already ahead of NBC and especially CBS' sports channels by default. But I think it's still gonna take a lot for them to overcome ESPN.

Also, rumor now has it Olbermann is going to co-anchor the 11PM Sportscenter the week before his show debuts. That also happens to be the first week of Fox Sports 1.

That's because Fox Sports One will be on the same channel which (I believe) Fuel TV currently sits on. In not like they're starting from scratch ya know.....

Fox Sports Two OTOH could have more of a challenge once it's launched
