NY Times - WRIV Article

Great Article...I also heard someone on RIV last month during PM drive...he was good..forgot his name..lol

WRIV is a good Downtown Station. I always check them out when I'm in the area. Last time I was out east, about a month ago, It sounded like they updated their audio chain as it sounded so much better than it has in a long time. The good local programming coupled with the great sounding audio equals a great station in my book.

Great story. I owe Bruce a long overdue compliment for nice things he said about me a while back. I worked with Bruce at WGLI in 1986, and there would be times we would wax on for hours it seems on the demise of good live and local radio, and how managers never seem to get the big picture when it comes to small town radio. I'm glad Bruce is doing the right thing and keeping it real. He may not make a fortune, but Bruce's bottom line has always been quality and service. He does more to serve the public interest, convenience and necessity with WRIV than most other owners. I'm jealous. Good work, Mr. Tria.

Not a day goes by where I don’t think about my time at WRIV......great memories! I worked just about every shift there, and left as morning man and production director. I enjoyed working there, playing such great songs, and being live and local......WRIV is about as local as you can get....Listeners calling when you had a cold, sending homemade soups and breads, getting mad at you when you said something off kilter...mad like your mother would get, one lady in a deli said she expected more of me. Whenever I think about my days about WRIV, I remember Flight 800...WRIV had the best coverage in the world...Frank Brinka showed his true colors a real local news guy...it was cool to be there.....networks were calling us to get information....Ted Brown was there, Gil Ellis too. I remember being thanked by Kurtisha Mornings mother, she was a local kid who was murdered and I wouldnt let it go, I told off the Riverhead police on the air most mornings.....I will never forget her saying thanks for keeping her daughters name on the air! They found her body and her killer....
The Tria family were always nice, I enjoyed Vince Tria, Bruce’s father.......he reminded me of my dad...my last day there was on Christmas Eve, and I felt like I was leaving home......and in fact I was. 1390 WRIV Your Hometown Station!
Congrats on the news article Bruce!!

Bruce Tria's "Dawn Patrol"? I used to have a decal on my bedroom door for Joe Roberts' "Dawn Patrol" on 540 WBIC. Glad to see some parts of LI's radio heritage remain.
