NY1019.com

All Access says that this domain name could be for the future format on 101.9 FM. I ran a whois on the domain and the registrant is something called "Millennium New Jersey Holdco LLC"... Hmmm... I thought Walter Sabo didn't work at NJ 101.5 anymore... Is somebody at Millennium playing games with their former employee, Sabo, now employed as Chief Op Officer of Merlin Media? I thought NJ 101.5 was "NOT New York... Proud to be New Jersey."Could it be that Sabo is being "cybersquatted" by his former stomping grounds? ???

Some radio news sites had www.1019WYNY.com mentioned as a possibility.

I just checked and saw that www.1019fmnew.com (potentially replacing www.1019rxp.com for New York's WRXP) and www.1011fmnew.com (potentially replacing www.q101.com for Chicago's WKQX) were just registered on July 7, 2011. As "1019 FM New" is the new on air moniker for the NYC outlet, these could be real possibilities for new websites for these two new Merlin Media stations - or just more online curveballs.

Stay tuned...

Re: 101.9 New FM livestream

I'm curious to see what the stunting sounds like and i keep getting a rock stream instead. Where is the current stream for whats on now on 101.9fm?

Re: 101.9 New FM livestream

There is no stream for the on air version of WRXP; the online stream (being managed by Emmis with Merlin Media) you hear is that of the departed Rock 1019 format. That will continue as is for the time being.
Until the new format's website is up and running there'll be no online stream...unless a private citizen puts up the over the air audio on a stream on a service such as www.UStream.tv.

There are indications that things may be in place by 6am Mon. 7/18/11 when the new station does its first show, apparently to be hosted by Paul Cavalconte along with male & female co-hosts...if one goes by the "live break" that was heard at about 6:35pm ET Fri. evening. At that time the new website & stream should be active.

A few domains have been mentioned as possibilities for the new outlet, such as: www.ny1019.com, www.1019wyny.com, www.1019fmnew.com

Ok, so if someone can do that and the possibility to that, thanks a million already.

Re: 101.9 New FM livestream

I have to admit, this music mix isn't half bad. It's sort of a rock-based AC, with a similar approach to more rock-based classic hits stations, but spanning from the 80's to present. Or perhaps like current-day AC without the 70's and rhythmic songs. I also am hearing acapella jingles that sound like they were produced by JAM, and are much classier sounding than the trendy jingles used on many AC stations these days. (One of them even had a chime-like sound at the end - maybe we will hear "chime time" just like on NJ 101.5, and of course WABC before that.) I don't like the idea of this replacing RXP, and I don't think we need another mass-appeal station of this nature, but I wouldn't mind if WPLJ or Fresh sounded this way. Of course, it remains to be seen if this music will be heard in any capacity on the new format, or even if the "101.9 FM New" name will stick.

Edited to add: Ironically, the ID's with random women talking about things they like actually remind me of some of the early WRXP ID's. Of course, they're aimed at a different demographic, but it's the same basic idea. It does seem like the station is pandering to women in a way that will seriously turn off men, and even women who don't adhere to all the stereotypes. But again, I think the music is pretty decent.

And another thought... a lot of people are speculating that the station will assume the WYNY calls. But with the "new" branding, maybe we can expect another heritage NYC call instead. Of course, CBS might not be willing to give those up so easily.

Re: 101.9 New FM livestream

I'm not sure "New" in and of itself is a great branding. Should the format last, it won't sound right. Three years in they're still 101.9 - New?

103.5 The New KTU is 15 years old.
People were making the switch to The New 96.7 The Coast on its last day.
The New 92.3 Now is 2 years old

I'm sure KTU will still call itself "new" even after it's old enough to drink.

CBS "parked" them on a West Palm Beach, Florida station to avert such an event. If Randy even thought of grabbing the WNEW calls, he would have to pay an astronomical price (think tens of millions of dollars).

Besides, if CBS wanted WNEW to return to New York, they would have placed them on the appropriate-sounding 92.3 NOW, no?

and out on Long Island, the "New Levittown Park Bake Shop" must be at least 40 years old.

Since they've been calling themselves "101-9 FM NEW", I decided to see where 1019fmnew.com would lead me. On Friday night it went pretty much nowhere. Now it redirects to the Dan Patrick Show web site. whois.com shows it is registered to a company called Proxy, Inc., who probably grabbed it once they heard the 101-9 FM NEW identifier on air.

And what would be the Chicago counterpart www.1011fmnew.com (for WKQX "Q101") now also leads to the Dan Patrick Show site.

Something like Fox Sports Radio won't be coming to these frequencies given the news people hired away from other stations for both of these outlets.

Hmmm... "The Dan Patrick Show"? Makes me wonder if Jimmy de Castro (he who runs The Content Factory) will be involved with the new startup on 101.9 somehow...

Trivia: Dan Patrick's old ESPN Radio show was first heard here in New York - not on WEPN, but its predecessor, WEVD; ESPN had been buying time to clear it here.

I seriously doubt that Dan Patrick's syndicated radio show will be involved with Merlin's new spoken-worders here and in Chicago, but stranger things have happened.

And if his show is indeed cleared here, at least, how much do you think it would grind ESPN Radio's gears (Dan Patrick, a former ESPN employee) to the point that they will resume finding an FM stick for "ESPN New York 1050"?

Hey, I hear Family Radio might be selling their Philadelphia FM station... :-X
