and by ALMOST the same points that Fresh GAINED as Lite FM LOST....looks like their promotional campaign is WORKING....

NYC and NJ have the WORST sounding AC stations. Seriously, Lady Gaga shouldn't be played on an AC station, let alone a song like Telephone which is rhythmic enough to be played on dance and rhythmic CHR stations. Lite, Fresh, Magic, and KJoy have all done that. Why can't we have an AC station that sounds like WEBE 108 or 101.9 Lite FM. I wouldn't think that the AC format's demographics would have vastly different music preferences from market to market.

Earlier this week in the 5 PM hour, I was scanning the dial and landed on a station that played the Soul II Soul song "Back To Life." That station? Lite FM. Not a textbook example of a "lite" song, but I'll take that over Lady Gaga any day - especially "Bad Romance." (I bet Lite and/or Fresh are spinning that song in heavy rotation!)

Among the more important 25-54 demo, Fresh is now in 5th place, tied with WCBS FM. As it took over 3 years for WWFS to reach this level, this is an example that indicates it can take quite a while for a new station to build an audience. Perhaps that will turn out to be true for 92 Now.

Speaking of NOW, when the HELL are they going to wake up and stop being so lame?!?!?! They need to pick it up a bit and stop having such a tight playlist!! I don't understand it... are they trying to fail??? seriously. AND PLEASE play something different than Z100, whether's it's more dance, more alternative, something completely new all together... whatever at this point! lol... just something, right now I can barely listen to the station to be honest, they repeat songs that I'm already sick of WAY TOO MUCH!

Well, they have extended the Saturday night dance factory, so if the program continues to see growth, maybe they will start to add some more tunes in rotation.

NOW and 'RXP fail yet again.

Now is consitently around 5th 18-34, and in the top 10 18-49 and 25-54. How is that a failure?

No, it's not beating Z-100... but it does not have to be able to bill well and be considered a sucess.

WRXP is doing better among its intended demos than the overall ratings would suggest.
That being said, Emmis has recently stated in a financial document that they are considering the possible sale of one of their three stations in New York. They indicated that it is possible that would produce more revenue for them than continued operation of the station.
It has been rumored for quite some time that ESPN is eager to buy an FM station in New York, to transfer their sports programming from 1050 AM. This would help them reach a younger audience that is more amenable to FM.
Personally, I hope that WRXP stays, as it is the only full power rock station in the area playing anything that came out over the last 20 years. If WAXQ, with its very tight playlist of old rock songs becomes the only rock station left in New York, it would become another indication of how bland commercial radio has become here.

'RXP's problem seems related to Time Spent Listening since their cume is an otherwise healthy 2.1 million.

Country? Dance? Active Rock? Anyone??????

The press i've been seeing suggests that ESPN Radio might want to (or is trying to) work out a deal for the 101.9 frequency (as in "Sports FM") - if that flames OUT...it's ANYBODY's guess as to WHAT format could be put on there...the HISTORY of the 101.9 frequency is SO LONG that many years ago, the late Rick Sklar, in his book "Rockin America", called 101.9 "format of the month"...

now if Emmis wanted to plug up a hole in the NYC market (YEAH, right....) - the BEST way to go right now could be contemporary country - with artists like Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum (who gets played a LOT on Fresh) hittin up BOTH the pop AND country chars...the time could be right now to make the move....besides which, NYC has NOT had a FULL-time country format on FM since 107.1...

NOW is a CHR station - they might as well call that YPS or a young persons station - and to me 7TH in the younger demos is a failure, because not only is your CHR competitor beating you, but that means other stations not geared to young people are beating you too and apparently doing so easily! If you can place high in your target demo, you're doomed, because you aren't going to win the older ones often.

When you have as many expenses (DJ's, etc.) as NOW does, you have no choice but to bill well...

According to the Daily News Now is 5th 18-34. Hot and Z 100 are tied for 1st, KTU is 3rd, Power is 4th.
